Avengers: Age of Ultron continues to dominate weekend box office

Avengers Age of UltronAs expected, the superheroes could not be defeated this weekend at the box office. Avengers: Age of Ultron held on to the top spot, while the comedy Hot Pursuit debuted in the second spot this weekend. In other exciting box office news, Cinderella is now the third-highest grossing film of the year. Passing the $500 million mark at the global box office, Disney’s adaptation of the classic fairy tale is still making waves at international markets, most recently opening at number one in Japan.

Avengers: Age of Ultron had no competition at the top, raking in another $77.2 million this weekend. With everyone’s favorite superheroes coming together to save the world, the film’s $77.2 million second weekend is the second highest second weekend domestically, just behind the first film in the series, The Avengers. Debuting this week in the second spot is the comedy Hot Pursuit. Hollywood’s leading ladies Reese Witherspoon and Sofia Vergara star in the flick, which earned $13.3 million in its first weekend. Tribute readers thought the women were really funny and gave it 4.5 stars.

The Age of Adaline held on to the third spot at the box office this weekend. The romantic drama, starring Blake Lively and Michiel Huisman, earned $5.6 million this weekend. Tribute.ca readers enjoyed the romantic drama, giving it 4 stars.

After several weeks in the top five at the box office, Furious 7 dropped two spots to fourth, grossing $5.2 million this weekend. Tribute readers are big fans of the extremely successful film and gave it 4.5 stars.

Paul Blart: Mall Cop 2 dropped one spot to round out the top five at the box office. The sequel earned another $5.1 million this weekend. Readers enjoyed Kevin James‘ crazy antics and adventures, giving the film 3.4 stars.
