Bad Boys for Life on top for second straight weekend

Bad Boys for Life tops weekend box officeAfter debuting to the second-largest opening for the Martin Luther King Jr. Day weekend, Sony’s Bad Boys for Life retained the top spot at the box office for the second consecutive weekend.

The third entry into the buddy cop film franchise saw it bring in an additional $34 million, to push its 10-day total to $120.6 million. Bad Boys for Life is on pace to set a new franchise high, surpassing Bad Boys II‘s $138.6 million total, ensuring a fourth entry will be in the works.

Remaining in second place was Sam Mendes’ World War I epic, 1917. The war drama saw a slight dip in its performance at the box office, but with a growing expansion, the film brought in an additional $15.8 million to help it cross the $100 million threshold domestically.

Also retaining its spot from last weekend was the Robert Downey Jr. adventure/comedy Dolittle. Despite missing the mark with critics, audiences have taken a liking to the picture, which is doing somewhat better business than initially expected. In its second weekend of release it brought in $12.5 million, to push its 10-day total to $44.7 million.

Making its debut in fourth place was Guy Ritchie‘s The Gentlemen. The slick crime comedy brought in just over $11 million, which is far off from Ritchie’s 2019 film Aladdin, but closer to his 2015 adaptation of a ’60s TV show, The Man From U.N.C.L.E.

Bringing up the rear in the top five was Sony’s hit sequel, Jumanji: The Next Level.  It earned another $7.9 million this weekend, pushing its domestic total to $283.4 million. ~Paolo Maquiraya
