Baz Luhrmann, director of such unforgettable films as Moulin Rouge! and Romeo + Juliet, has now created a new Netflix musical drama series called The Get Down.

Set in South Bronx in 1977, The Get Down follows a group of teenagers as they work their way through adolescence and fight to make their dreams happen, all while navigating the mean streets of a nearly bankrupt New York City.

In anticipation of TGD‘s release next Friday, we’ve got our hands on some super cool old school-style concept posters, featuring the whole gang — Books (Justice Smith), Shao (Shameik Moore), Cadillac (Yahya Abdul-Mateen II), Mylene (Herizen F. Guardiola), and Dizzee (Jaden Smith). Just click on each one to see it full size.

Written and executive-produced by Luhrmann, the series has been 10 years in the making, and traces the origin of hip-hop to its earliest days in a burning Bronx.

Get your binge-watch on when The Get Down hits Netflix on August 12. ~Shelby Morton

Baz Luhrmann? Jaden Smith? Sounds like a must to avoid. Thanks for the warning!
