Bill Cosby charged with sexual assault

By Tribute on December 30, 2015 | 9 Comments

Bill CosbyOn Wednesday morning, Bill Cosby, 78, was charged with sexually assaulting Andrea Constand at his home in Philadelphia in 2004.

Montgomery County District Attorney-Elect Kevin Steele told the press that an arrest warrant was issued for the comedian after evidence was found that he drugged and sexually violated the former Temple University employee. He said: “Upon examination of all the evidence, today we are able to seek justice on behalf of the victim.”

Despite all the allegations in the past, this is the first time Cosby is being charged in a criminal case. The case was dismissed in 2005, but when new evidence was found in July this year, the District Attorney reopened the case. The statute of limitations to charge Cosby runs out in January, 12 years after the incident.

Cosby is expected to be arraigned later today.

Okay. I have to have my say. I have absolutely no idea what really happened, none of us do. I’ve always liked Bill Cosby and truthfully I don’t WANT him to be guilty. But that aside, if you ARE guilty Bill Cosby, then shame on you. Shame on you. I must say that if you look at human nature, none of this makes sense. There are 40ish women who suddenly claim they’ve been raped. Being a woman, I take this seriously. However, these have happened as long ago as 50 years. Why haven’t ANY of these women come forward before. Not one woman had the courage to accuse him or charge him before now, not even for a pay off. Now, suddenly 40, 50 years later, they’ve ALL decided to come forward? And this Katherine McKee claims to have been raped by Bill then went to a party with him immediately afterward? Seriously? Most women would not be going to a party at all and certainly not one where their rapist was also attending. I don’t buy it. Here’s another possibility. Bill Cosby was at least part of the inner circle of the Rat Pack. Each of these guys were richer than God with an ego to match. I think that there’s a possibility that Bill did something to make them angry. These are very powerful men. They have the ability and the means to concoct a revenge plot to destroy Bill’s career. They could well afford to pay off 40 or 50 women to “claim” rape over several decades. Who could dispute that many women saying the same thing? It’s been a pretty effective way to ruin him.
Again, I don’t know what the truth is, I’m just hard pressed to believe how convenient it is that all these women kept silent for decades. When you know movie stars can’t go into rehab or get a DUI without it being splashed all over the tabloids. These rapes were successfully kept silent for 50 years? I don’t buy it.

Is this going to postpone his new fall series?

    Brigitte,

I respect your opinion, however, after dealing with sexual assault victims for the better part of my career, it is not unusual for a long period of time to go by before it is reported. In fact, 8 of 10 sexual assaults are not reported. Then add fame and power to the mix and there is no way these victims want to come forward. Put yourself in their shoes. Would you want this lens over your life? Judging you? Calling you a whore? You asked for it?? Probably not. The courts aren’t exactly friendly to victims either. Until you are there, I wouldn’t go blaming the victim.

    Brigitte,

I know this must be earth shattering for you, however; if you believe that this has been “successfully” kept silent for 50 years, you are extremely misinformed.

The rape vctim in this instance who has been successful in having Mr. Cosby charged, has always pursued this case. Prosecuters refused to go forward in the past and it was only through a civil case that she won a settlement against Cosby. Now based on new evidence, the criminal case is proceeding. Its about time.

He is a sexual predator and should be locked up and have the key thrown away. I am sick of looking at his ugly face and I mean UGLY, the only way he could have sex with any woman is to have them drugged. People who idolize these Movie people, Religion Leaders, etc. should take note and remember once they get power and fame they think they are invincible and can do what they like.

It’s about time that he’s charged. After all those years of sexually assaulting women and being publicly exposed, he was never charged. Although he has been publicly degraded, he should have been legally charged.

Am I mistaken or was I told wrong information. That some women did report or at least tried to???? But they were not taken seriously because of his position as a comedian of famous statue.
Those who can not believe that women will not share….trying being a victim….what’s stripped from you. Even the boldest woman that stick up for other being abused….can keep the horror deep inside. Mostly blaming them selves or feeling dirty. Please don’t judge until you walk in an sexually abused persons shoes.
To the other with open minds thank you

The victim Andrea Constand, a Canadian citizen, was working as a basketball coach for Temple University in Pennsylvania in 2004 when she was assaulted. The case was dismissed in 2005 for lack of evidence?. Now, new evidence has been submitted, and has finally resulted in charges. Other victims will be allowed to testify as well. Think of all the years this woman has had to persist in trying to get justice. There is no statute of limitations for crimes of this nature in Canada. Now you will understand that it is almost impossible to get justice for a crime committed almost 12 years ago.
