Bill Cosby’s Walk of Fame Star vandalized

By Tribute on July 23, 2015 | 29 Comments

cosby1For decades the Hollywood Walk of Fame has been a tourist attraction. Recently the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce, which oversees the Walk of Fame, has been forced into answering some difficult questions.

Members of the public are demanding that Bill Cosby’s star be removed in light of recent allegations that he drugged women with the intention of having nonconsensual sex with them. In addition to wanting Cosby’s star removed, there has been a public urging for Donald Trump’s star to be removed as well.

Leron Gubler, Chamber of Commerce President and CEO, made a statement regarding the recent demands. “The Hollywood Chamber of Commerce has received inquiries asking whether we are planning to remove the stars of Donald Trump and Bill Cosby. The answer is no. The Hollywood Walk of Fame is a registered historic landmark. Once a star has been added to the Walk, it is considered a part of the historic fabric of the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Because of this, we have never removed a star from the Walk.”

Vandals have taken the matter into their own hands by defacing the star, writing the word “rapist” across it.

In light of the accusations, comedians Jerry Seinfeld and David Letterman have asked that their endorsements in the book Cosby: His Life and Times be removed. Tom Keaney, who represents both Seinfeld and Letterman, said in a statement: “We were unaware that those quotes were still in circulation, and are asking the publisher to refrain from their future use.”

Cary Goldstein, a spokesperson for Simon & Schuster, added: “We haven’t received any requests to remove endorsements from Cosby, but we will certainly honor them if we do.” ~Greg Chisholm

Cosby may think he has escaped punishment because of the Statute of Limitations but he will NEVER escape the punishment of the ‘court of public opinion’…that and his Maker will give him the punishment he so richly deserves. His star will continue to be defaced….he is a ruined man.

Donald Trump HAS a star? Egad. Who the hell thought to give the rich loudmouth jerk one in the first place? Bet he bought it for himself…

  3. Dawn • July 23, 2015 @ 11:35 AM

Why on earth would Donald Trump have a star??

  4. Bev • July 23, 2015 @ 11:38 AM

This business of an expiry date on reporting and dealing with sex abuse is so wrong, many children have to grow up first and then as adults begin to have difficulty adjusting and dealing with sex within relationships as adults, how can there remain a statute of limitations on something that you don’t know is going to color your life many, many years later. Until Bill Cosby faces the truth and publicly vindicates the truth telling victims, there will be no peace for them.
As for Camile, she is a sorry figure to continue her denials, she is entitled to support him sure, if she needs to, however please do not speak out to deny the truth of the victim.

One of the most intelligent replies I’ve seen to date on this site. Well said, Bex.

  6. Thalira • July 23, 2015 @ 12:27 PM

    Bev,

I think I read somewhere that where children are involved there is no statute of limitation. These women were all adults at the time of the rapes. But I could be wrong; I’m Canadian and not overly familiar with the details of American law.

  7. Dar • July 23, 2015 @ 12:46 PM

I’m Canadian and the law may be different in the States. But in Canada, most statutes of limitations vary when there are minors involved and what the case is about. EG. for MVAs the regular 2 year limitation period starts when the minor reaches the age of majority. I am not sure what the statute of limitations is for rape but I sincerely doubt there is no statute of limitations on rape. Definitely no statute of limitations on murder but I believe that’s the only exception.

  8. Jose • July 23, 2015 @ 12:47 PM

In Canada, there is no limitation when you are a young child and it happens. It is happening to my 37 year old daughter right now… she is seeking justice at the moment… so proud of her to stand up to the A-hole…

  9. Bev • July 23, 2015 @ 1:34 PM

Pleased by all the Canadian’s who read details of sensational stories. I know when children are involved it is possible to lay charges and that is only sensible as they have to grow into a place where this history affects their lives. I heard a programme on Morningside once about adult (now) victims of childhood sex abuse and a very, very elderly lady called in and cried and was so, so grateful to finally be able to speak about it and her own childhood assaults, it was very moving.
I just think that the answer to all of this is for Cosby to acknowledge his wrongdoing and that will bring a tremendous relief to suffering victims. To continue to deny is to continue to injure the already injured victims.

  10. Kitty • July 23, 2015 @ 1:49 PM

His case should not fall under the Statute of Limitations as one courageous, famous, high profile woman (sorry, I can’t remember he name) publicly made the allegations many yrs ago but nobody paid attention and nobody else came forward out of fear back then and it went nowhere. As long as this issue was already raised so long ago, the Statute as per the expired time period should be null and void when applying to Cosby.

  11. c • July 23, 2015 @ 2:43 PM

I’ve never felt compelled to join a discussion life like this, but you are amazing and intelligent people. There is no statute of limitations on murder OR…kidnapping. That’s thanks to the Lindberg baby. There is a fine line between kidnapping and forcible confinement; which does have a statute of limitations. If there are any victims that were drugged and taken anywhere and not made aware, you have the basis for kidnapping charge. I’m Canadian and this law is the same across the border. They need more aggressive and intuitive legal councel. My heart goes out to each of them.

  12. Sherri • July 23, 2015 @ 3:12 PM

I used to be such a big Crosby fan and from the moment I seen the rape reports I was totally disgusted in the creep ..he may get away with it by law but not by Karma, his losing his famous face to shame and God! may he grow older losing more an more of that ugly face till he dies. They may not be able to remove the walk of fame star but it wouldn’t be a sad thing if someone smashed it up hehe

  13. Pookie • July 23, 2015 @ 4:16 PM

Why would Donald Trump have a star on the walk of fame he isn;t no star. And as for Bill Cosby, I’d like to know why it took these women so long to come forward after all this time.I don’t condone rape but i think it was way to long for ‘all’these women to come forward all of a sudden. Give the old guy a break. You should have done something about it when he was younger why wait till he’s an old man.

  14. Kitty • July 23, 2015 @ 5:29 PM

“Give the guy a break”??????? Pookie are you for real?? My God because he’s old has nothing at all to do with what he did to those women!!! You’re either male or you have NO idea what it’s like to be raped – WITH OR WITHOUT your knowledge!! There is harm….MUCH harm done that will never ever go away from a serious violation. In fact – someone who thinks like you…. it isn’t even worth replying to your comment.

  15. Theresa • July 23, 2015 @ 5:50 PM

l have to totally Agree with Kitty your right on the mark Cosby was not old when these rapes happened it totally has nothing to do with his age it’s what has happened.l think he is did this and because its years later means nothing. Shame on him.And buy the way l am Canadian. In this crime there should not be a time limit on when a person can be charged. He is free and that is a real shame

  16. msjoy • July 23, 2015 @ 6:02 PM

Hollywood should have a “WALK of SHAME!”

  17. Marie • July 23, 2015 @ 6:04 PM

I’m glad to hear that you don’t condone rape. Why did almost all of these women wait so long to come forward is because rape is physically, emotionally, psychologically, spiritually and socially mortifying. I was raped 13 years ago by a retired wrestler on a first date. Had I reported it, it would have destroyed my career. I would have had to go to court and be challenged to prove that I was the victim. In Canadian and American courts, victims of rape are victimized again because their reputations as women are scrutinized and even a virgin could look bad with the spin that lawyers can put on the truth.
These women probably came forward because multiple women were raped by the same man and they were no longer alone.
    Rape changes your life permanently!
If you truly care, please speak to your provincial/state and your federal representative to remove the statute of limitations for rape.

  18. TeeDee • July 23, 2015 @ 10:34 PM

    Very well said, Marie.

  19. Bob • July 23, 2015 @ 11:20 PM

Crosby is a serial rapist that’s getting off free. He better find himself a deep cave somewhere to hide the rest of his life because he can never, ever, show his face again in public.

  20. Kaney • July 24, 2015 @ 7:45 AM

Cosby and Trump, so much potential with their high profiles and both such predators in their own right. Arrogance beyond imagination. Cosby always creeped me out and the Donald just made me sick, Cosby a wolf in sheeps clothing while Trump a self aggrandizing buffoon in Armani

  21. Charmaine • July 24, 2015 @ 8:02 AM

I am not saying Bill Cosby is guilty or not guilty of these actions until I know all my questions can be answered. Chances are they never will. I am a victim of rape and it hurts to know when you tried to get help and no one believes you and they blame you for it. So I can feel and understand what others go through. However, my questions are why did it take so long to come forward? If they were drugged up so much how is it they remember it like it was yesterday. Knowing what he did was wrong why would you accept hush money and then spill your gut’s about it. I personally believe you should have to pay it all back. Two wrongs will never make anything right. I am not defending his actions but have my own questions that need to be answered and have that right to voice my opinion.

  22. Kitty • July 24, 2015 @ 12:12 PM

Charmaine – This did NOT take a long time to come to the forefront of public and legal attention. A very wealthy and prominent woman spoke out many, many years ago with her allegations about Cosby drugging and raping her. It all fell on deaf ears and because Cosby was so popular and loved as a comedian, most did not WANT to believe it and chose to ignore it. When other less powerful and less prominent women saw the results this woman got from making noise about his actions they chose not to come forward….tell me…..would YOU have come forward in light of the results the first courageous woman got???

  23. Kitty • July 24, 2015 @ 12:22 PM

Here’s an article about the assault that took place in the 70’s Charmaine. Remember – back in the 70’s people usually chose not to make issue with things like that and especially when it came to a popular Hollywood figure.
    “Tamara Green
    Tamara GreenScreenshot/TODAY

Green, a lawyer who lives in California, was the only named supporting witness in Constand’s suit.

When Green heard that the district attorney thought Constand’s story was weak and that she didn’t come forward quickly enough, she decided to step forward and tell her story.

She claimed Cosby assaulted her in the 1970s. Green told Newsweek she met Cosby through a friend when she was 19 years old and modeling in Los Angeles.

Green said she met Cosby for a business lunch one day while she had the flu. He allegedly gave her pills he said were cold medicine.

Green told the “Today” show in 2005 she was “face down on the table of the restaurant” about 30 minutes after taking the pills. Cosby allegedly offered to take her home. Once they were at Green’s apartment, he allegedly undressed her and assaulted her in her bed.

Eventually, Green said, she started throwing things. Cosby left her apartment after leaving two $100 bills on her coffee table, according to Green.

She never reported the alleged assault to the police because, as she said in the Newsweek interview, “it never works out [for the victim], unless you’re bleeding and there’s DNA and an eyewitness. I was 19 and he was the king of the world … Nobody would’ve believed me.”

Green told the news magazine in February that coming forward with the allegations essentially ended her career as a lawyer.

  24. Charmaine • July 24, 2015 @ 2:09 PM

This is getting ridiculous and out of hand. I think you people of the public have done enough damage and have your beliefs lets move on in life.

  25. Connie • July 24, 2015 @ 4:27 PM

Charmaine. why are you so steamed up by these comments? They are not ridiculous and it’s not out of hand, people are allowed to express their opinions, even if you don’t like what they say. Why did these women wait so long before reporting the rape by Bill Cosby…..they have told you over and over again why they did not report it, one did and got nowhere, others figured why bother, it was Bill Cosby, big and powerful, money to pay some of them off, paid big money to keep the news quiet etc and etc. Would you go up against Bill Cosby, if so, then you are a super strong woman, because he could eat you up and spit you out for even suggesting such a heinous crime. This is what he did to all these other women. He crushed them and I feel so sorry for each of them. Then he goes on with his life, leaving everyone thinking he is this pillar of virtue, big speeches on how to live a good life. We all looked up to him thinking what a great man he was…….then we find out just what a piece of scum he really was….and guess what….you are not going to like this post either. but I don’t really care. I hope these posts go on forever, if he can’t be charged in court, he can be spurned by public opinion, he,s already being dropped by many of his sponsors, nobody wants their name to be connected in any way now with Bill Cosby. Another member said “give him a break” are absolutely crazy??? This scum of the earth does not deserve to give him a break.

  26. Kitty • July 25, 2015 @ 11:44 AM

Thank you Connie – very well said. Tunnel visioned people such as Charmaine will always want to remain ignorant of the truth – UNTIL they themselves or their daughter’s get raped. Watch them sing a different song then! And they will look to others around them for support and sympathy – perhaps they’ll feel the pain of nobody caring or believing them…..OR telling them to “give the guy a break”.

  27. Charmaine • August 9, 2015 @ 4:35 AM

We’re all entitled to our opinions no matter which way any of us want to hear it or see it. I’m not saying I don’t believe them I just wanted to know why it took so long and if justice system can’t make this right for any of them then why come forward. So like its been said a few women have taken hush money before are they looking for more. Kitty I guess you only really want to read what your eyes really want to see. You would see what I wrote in my first comment. No I’m not singing a different song. I’m saying us people of the public have done enough damage. You think he’s the only star out there who has done this or and said he hasn’t but I wasn’t there to see it or anything. However, Stephen Colin’s isn’t being harassed like this or being damaged as much like Cosby. You people need to back off and let it others who are involved deal with it because two wrongs in this world will never make things right. Those people damaging property should be charged.

Give him a break? Look at the BBC.They finally revealed

  29. jeagles7@gmail • January 1, 2016 @ 4:29 PM

Give him a break? Look at the BBC.They finally revealed a huge 50 year cover up, with multiple TV stars were allowed to molest children. JIMMY is dead, The other one is in jail for 5 years because he is now 85 . Most victims never ever publically speak, because of shame, of not being believed, judicial system sucks. The message of women and sexuality, looking at the top 50 music videos, all sex, barely dressed, men powerful, what messages are we sending? Can’t even let my 8 year old watch music, too risqué, and sends her a bad message.
