Bradley Cooper cast as The Crow

By Alexandra Heilbron on July 7, 2011 | 22 Comments

Relativity Media has confirmed in a press release that Limitless star Bradley Cooper has been cast in the lead role as Eric Draven in the remake of the 1994 cult classic The Crow, which starred Brandon Lee. The studio also announced that Watchmen screenwriter Alex Tse will write the script. The original film was an adaptation of a comic book by James O’Barr, and was Lee’s last role — he was killed when a prop gun misfired during filming of the movie. The press release says: “The Crow adaptation will be a gritty reboot of the gothic iconic character Eric Draven, who returns from the grave as The Crow on a mission to avenge his wife’s murder, so that his soul can finally rest… The original film is known for its breakthrough visual style as well as its unique production design and cinematography. [Director Juan Carlos] Fresnadillo and Tse are perfectly suited to bring these beloved characters back to life, and to create a world worthy of this modern classic.” Filming of the remake is expected to begin this Fall.

Oops, I think I just drooled on my computer screen.

This could be really good if they don’t make it too cheesy. Take a page off Chris Nolan’s book and make the characters as real as possible.

The original had timing behind it with the mood of the movie perfectly matching the zeitgeist of when it was made. I think it could be remade well, but don’t think it needs to be as the original was fantastic. I can only hope they do the original justice. I would prefer hollywood coming out with original stuff instead.

Cooper is a terrible casting choice… he’s too much of a pretty boy – the hard core fan boys will have a field day with this

I think he is great and i have loved him in anything I have seen him in but… Im sorry, just cant see him as the crow…

Why would they remake such a great movie? Waist of time and money!!! He would be a TERRIBLE choice to play this role!!! Let’s leave this as a great film that Brandon Lee did and we are all able to watch it!!! (considering he did not complete filming his scenes) Don’t mess with perfection!!!

Why fix what isn’t broke I think that remaking that movie now Is still to soon to the original and it’s disrespectful to Brandons memory

Whats with all the remakes? For the love of god please dont make this 1. No disrespect to Bradley Cooper or any of the other cast and crew but I love this movie and I think it should be left the way it is.

Bad idea, I don’t think he’s fit for the part

While I can see the reason for remakes, (bringing old stories to a new generation and all that) some movies are just not meant to be remade! Why not take movies that failed, use the core story and make them into something great! And I agree with many people here, Cooper is great in the many rolls that he’s done, but Eric Draven is not for him. I will be very surprised if not delighted if he pulls this off. But still, The Crow is a movie that should be left as it is, an amazing piece of Hollywood history.

It doesn’t bother me that much that they’re redoing the Crow. They’re redoing anything and everything because they’ve run out of ideas. What bothered me is the casting of Cooper. While he’s one of my favourite actors I can’t see him doing it. Of course, that’s what I thought about Heath Ledger playing the Joker and I was dead wrong about that. So hopefully he can do something with it that’s fantastic.

i wish they went with someone who has a proven track record when it comes to serious acting…..bradley is ok for rom coms, comedies, and action; but it would be nice if the ‘suits’ in hollywood would think outside the box and get an actor who could chew the scenery…..someone like ray romano, mickey rourke….any one

@jacker blake – Ray Romano?!?!?! you can’t be serious

It seem’s that hollywood has lost its creativity.

this: The studio also announced that Watchmen screenwriter Alex Tse will write the script. …really, Watchmen was like word for word and scene for scene like the graphic novel, it kinda doesn’t seem hard to screenwrite and be acknowledged for Watchmen when the work was done years ago for you. Otherwise yeah, this doesn’t seem like a right fit of a movie for Cooper to play.

Please dont remake this movie. Why can’t Hollywood come up with something else? They are doing a diservice to Brandon Lee. Brandon Lee brought a kind of awe to The Crow. Nobody can replace Brandon Lee on The Crow. Just like Christopher Reves for Superman, you just can’t remake the orignals. Maybe he would be better playing in the movie The Crow: City of Angels, but not the Orginal Crow.

  20. Kris • July 9, 2011 @ 1:25 AM

LOL, wow, this will be an EPIC FAIL of gargantuan proportion! Bradley as The Crow? What a joke!

  21. Linda • July 11, 2011 @ 12:17 AM

Well it is tough to beat the original. Why did they just not continue from the 2nd movie of the crow. I am a big fan of Bradley Cooper.

  22. omen • July 20, 2011 @ 11:01 AM

Ok i don’t know anything off hand about this actor but in all honesty they should have went with someone that actually has the look and feel for such a part such as Johnny Depp or Luke Goss mind you they might not be Brandon may he rest in peace but straying too far from the essence will surely kill this attempt…
