Third Bridget Jones movie on hold

By Tribute on April 29, 2013 | 2 Comments

A third Bridget Jones movie might be a long way off. That’s the latest word from Colin Firth, who played Mark Darcy in the first two films. Firth spoke to the Chicago Sun-Times about the next installment in the series and couldn’t give any definite time period for its production. The film’s future was even dicier in December but Firth offered a slightly more positive prognosis: “I wouldn’t say that it’s completely dead in the water, but the way it’s going you might be seeing Bridget Jones’ granddaughter’s story being told by the time we get there.” A third movie was initially proposed in 2011 and has had trouble taking off ever since. About a year ago, plans really hit a rut when Hugh Grant refused to participate  because he didn’t like the script. The screenwriters may want to wait to get their inspiration from author Helen Fielding, whose next Bridget Jones book is expected later this year.

Bridget Jones’s Diary, starring Renée Zellweger, Colin Firth, and Hugh Grant, was a major success for Working Title Films. In total, it made over $281.9 million worldwide.  The sequel, Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason, was almost as successful, earning $262.5 million. It appears all involved want to re-live the fun of films and Firth remains hopeful that they will get everything figured out sometime in the not-so-imminent future. ~Cassie Jasinski

Liked the first one, not the second one so much. I wouldn’t want to see a third movie made
