Bryan Cranston stunned by Oscar nomination

Bryan CranstonBryan Cranston wants to win the Best Actor Oscar.

The star, 59, has been nominated in the category for the first time ever for his depiction of Dalton Trumbo in the biopic about the prolific Hollywood screenwriter – who spent 11 months in prison in 1950s due to his membership of the Communist Party of the USA and was responsible for writing Spartacus.

Cranston admits it felt like a childhood dream had come true when he discovered he was in the running for the prestigious prize against Leonardo DiCaprio, Eddie Redmayne, Michael Fassbender and Matt Damon.

Cranston shared: “I’m very proud of all my great fortune, but the Oscars is the first award that became known to me growing up. Hearing those words, ‘An Academy Award nominee,’ was like, ‘Wow!'”

And the actor would not only be fulfilling his dreams but also those of his parents, whose footsteps he followed in.

He added: “It seemed normal to become an actor because my father was an actor, my mother was an actor. It’s simply the family business.”

Discussing how he works, Cranston – who achieved international fame when he played the role of teacher-turned-drug dealer Walter White in Breaking Bad – keeps his home life “sane” so that he can play crazy character.

Cranston – who is married to Robin Dearden with whom he has 22-year-old daughter Taylor – told the Metro newspaper: “I always wanted my home life to be as sane as possible, so that I can go insane in my professional life. In order to survive this business, which is highly competitive and aggressive, you need to create a normal life around you. It’s true for most performers that they seek something solid, foundationally.”

Bryan Cranston’s portrayal of Dalton Trumbo was excellent and very poignant. This movie is the most underrated of any that came out in 2015. The entire all-star cast was fantastic and the storyline still brings out passionate debate no matter which side you are on. That’s why Trumbo’s speech at the end of the movie is very stirring.
