Carol wins Audience Award at Whistler Film Festival

The Whistler Film Festival has come to a close. There were 89 films shown during the duration of the festival, including movies that are expected to make a splash on the awards scene, such as Carol, which was the opening gala film and the Canadian premiere, I Smile Back, The Lady in the Van and Trumbo.
The Whistler Film Festival’s Pandora Audience Award went to the romantic drama Carol, starring Cate Blanchett and Rooney Mara. Audience Award runner-ups were The Legend of Barney Thomson, starring and directed by Robert Carlyle, which received its North American premiere at the festival, followed by the mid-life crisis dramedy, the Quebec film Le Mirage. The WFF Audience Award is a non-cash prize presented to the highest-rated film as voted by the audience.
Total attendance for this year’s fest was 13,233 attendees. The film festival hosted more premieres, filmmakers, industry executives, and celebrities than ever before, including unique experiences from films, music and parties to high adrenaline races, earning it the title of “Canada’s coolest film fest.”
