Celebs protest seal hunt

By Alexandra Heilbron on October 22, 2009 | 52 Comments

christian_serratosA slew of celebs—including Twilight star Christian Serratos and Dancing With the Stars contestant Kelly Osbourne—are speaking out against Canada’s annual massacre of baby seals, the largest mass killing of marine mammals in the world. They’ll be posing in peta2’s “Save the Seals” T-shirt for a new ad series launching this week. Other celebs sporting the tee are Perez Hilton; Brody Jenner of The Hills ; Jackass star Steve-O; 90210 alum Jennie Garth; rockers Animal Collective; actor Rachael Leigh Cook and Olympic snowboarder Hannah Teter. Sarah McLachlan previewed the shirt at a Canada Day concert, where the singer condemned the slaughter. Serratos says, “I decided to pose for the Save the Seals campaign when I found out about just how many seals are being massacred in Canada. They’re being beaten with ice picks, and their skins are being peeled off their backs in front of their mothers, which is just unreasonable and ridiculous and evil.” The European Union and the U.S. have banned seal products, and world leaders—including Russia’s Vladimir Putin and President Barack Obama—have spoken out against the massacre.

The way they kill them may be a bit brutal and maybe that can change, but lets think of the consequences if we stopped. If the seal population were to double the fishing trade would be completely be out of work. Thousands of people would lose their jobs, and not just Canadian people. If we’re not eating fish we eat another food source, for example grain that get exported to third world countries. So you tell me wish is more brutal a bashed in seal head or a human starving to death. Hunger IS the BIGGEST problem in the world. More people die of hunger then any other disease. Its the leading cause of death in the WORLD. We always forget that cause “Out of sight, out of mind.” but that doesn’t change the facts. So pick your side Human’s or Seal’s.

  2. reality • October 22, 2009 @ 12:10 PM

nicely said. but what pisses me off is that they dont even eat the seals they just kill them for their skin. theres nothing wrong with killing animals to eat, as long as the death is painless, but to kill seals with ice picks just so people could buy their skins is unreasonable

  3. Moviefan • October 22, 2009 @ 12:42 PM

There aren’t any fish not because of seals, but because of overfishing by people. Yet we don’t bash people over the head and sell their skin. If you’re truly worried about third world countries not having enough grain, stop eating cows/chickens. That’s who eats all the grain, so we in North American can dine on meat. If there were less cows/chickens, there would be more grain for everyone (and less global warming, as cows produce a lot of gas).

  4. whatever • October 22, 2009 @ 4:29 PM

give me a break. go after poachers. fix the climate problem. save the starving children around the world.

the natives in Canada hunt seal in a respectful manner, its their culture. get the F over it.

  5. Leanne • October 22, 2009 @ 6:43 PM

Its doesn’t surprise me to read that celebrities and other people feel this way about the seal hunt in Canada…they are mislead. They do not kill them with a pick..they are shot..instant death…they are not skinned in front of their babies…sealers are not going to spend any more time on moving ice than they need to… that is done aboard the vessels…It ticks me off that people put out an opinion when they only see what Green Peace and the media wants them to see. If we were to go into a slaughter house for pigs, chickens, etc.. I’m sure that wouldn’t be a pretty sight either…get over it and get informed!

  6. mandee • October 22, 2009 @ 6:58 PM

blaise on October 22, 2009 11:36 AM im sorry but seriously? how many people do you think would honestly STARVE TO DEATH if they didnt eat fish? ive never heard of an all fish diet, have you? how would you feel if aliens (if there were such a thing) ate people and they wanted to bash in your wife and childs head in front of you just because they thought it would be cool. would you defend them? or would you be mad?

Moviefan on October 22, 2009 12:42 PM great comment.

whatever on October 22, 2009 4:29 PM killing an animal in such a terrible way should be illegal. it crosses the whole animal cruelty line.

Leanne on October 22, 2009 6:43 PM just because you are ok with people killing animals for no reason other than skin, doesnt mean everyone should agree with you. no one has to “get over” anything. everyone has their right to an opinion on this matter.

  7. Nancy • October 22, 2009 @ 8:54 PM

Moviefan: “If you’re truly worried about third world countries not having enough grain, stop eating cows/chickens. That’s who eats all the grain, so we in North American can dine on meat. If there were less cows/chickens, there would be more grain for everyone (and less global warming, as cows produce a lot of gas).”

This doesn’t make any sense! If people stopped eating cows/chickens, wouldn’t there then be even more cows and chickens alive to eat the grain? Seriously. There would be way less grain than there is now because all the cows and chickens would be eating it to stay alive and us humans would be eating it instead of meat. Look at the problem over in Africa….the people are not allowed to kill the animals for food, and the people are starving. You’ll never find a better source of protein than meat, and the body requires protein. You can’t get the right nutrition on grains alone. There are consequences for eveything. Every time one door opens, 2 close.

  8. Blaise • October 23, 2009 @ 1:57 AM

    To Mandee,

your absolutely right I’ve never heard of a all fish diet either but people do eat fish occasionally, and if their is no fish to eat then something else must take its place. Grain was just an example. Your being to narrow minded about the subject, and if you notice i mention at the very start that i didn’t agree with the brutality. As Leanne mentioned they don’t bash in skulls, they shoot them.

    To moviefan,

You are also correct in saying that the shortage of fish is due to overfishing, but saying that will only further prove my point. The reason fish are so over fished is because of the demand for food. Even if an increase of seal population had no effect on the fish population then the seals would simply starve to death. Either way those seals are going to die.

  9. mandee • October 23, 2009 @ 8:12 AM

Blaise on October 23, 2009 1:57 AM theres no such thing as “narrow minded” when you are talking about death of animals for next to no reason. i dont believe they shoot them for one second. also, if someone eats fish occasionally so lets say…2 times a month, do you really think that the 2 times a month they eat something different to replace that will eventually cause them to starve to death? your entire argument is invalid based on your reasoning. youre making up an imaginary world where people and seals starve to death because of fish. if people would only fish half the amount of time, there would be enough fish to reproduce, and enough fish for seals to eat them. everywhere there is a body of water there are fish. does this mean there are also seals to eat all these fish? of course not. only in some areas are there seals, so people should stop fishing in those areas and stop murdering poor defenseless seals FOR SPORT. i dont care HOW they kill them, its a senseless act of violence when the seals dont provide us with anything that keeps us alive. it is unnecessary to murder an animal with no intention of feeding the world with it. im sure they could use something to keep warm or whatever that ISNT animal SKIN or fur.

  10. beast • October 23, 2009 @ 8:59 AM

I guess Mandee that you have never been to far up north of canada to know that in some place it is all they can eat. The killing of seals is a cultural practice to aboriginal peoples, they don’t just take the skins they eat the whole seal. That I am ok with, but with pochars killing for skins, I am not ok with, I find it disgusting.

  11. Jo-Anne • October 23, 2009 @ 10:57 AM

“a bit brutal” ??? I’d say much more than a bit.

Leanne, yes, I am sure the way many animals are killed wouldn’t be a “pretty sight” but that doesn’t diminish the method used here, it only enhances the Green Peace argument.

Kudos for these celebrities to donate their time to such a worthy argument.

Meat is definitely a protein source, no argument there, but the best? Have to disagree there. Vegetarians with the right food combinations have a much healthier lifestyle, in my opinion. It just takes effort and time to ensure you have a varied diet.

We only need a certain amount of protein to survive and be healthy, but so many are under the mislead impression we need this vast amount to live. Along with the valuable proteins, too much meat unfortunately brings increased risk of degenerative disease – cancers, heart disease, diabetes, obesity…

it’s a lifestyle choice, if pork on your fork works for you, eat it, just don’t expect all of us to swallow it’s the best there is….

  12. Nancy • October 23, 2009 @ 1:35 PM

Jo-WAnne: I specifically said “You’ll never find a better source of protein than meat”. I never said meat is the only source of protein or that people who don’t eat meat aren’t “healthy”…unlike yourself, who think that “Vegetarians with the right food combinations have a much healthier lifestyle”. I believe that many who eat meat have a very healthy lifestyle as well. What I was saying is that meat is VERY high in protein, much higher than nuts or tofu or whatever but, don’t go on like I’m trying to shove meat down everyones throats and that if you don’t eat meat, your body is not getting the right amount of protein because I never said that. I’ll repeat (for you only because you need to hear things over and over and over), I said “You’ll never find a better source of protein than meat”. So, go ahead Jo-WAnne….get on Google or “whatwever” you use, and get cracking on trying to prove me wrong about the grams of protein per serving in meat being better than other sources. Have a blast!

  13. Jo-Anne • October 23, 2009 @ 3:43 PM

    very first site…

“Eggs are the best source of protein as they contain the highest amount of essential amino acids. Fish is the next best source and is then followed by meat…”

grams of protein in protein powders weigh in higher than grams in many meat sources.

so yes, I do disagree with your comment, “Youll never find a better source of protein than meat”…

control yourself, we’ve disagreed before, and will most likely again…

  14. Nancy • October 23, 2009 @ 4:01 PM

I could care less if we disagree or not, and we definately will again, LOL. You do know that eggs are baby chickens, right? And when I say “meat” I mean red, poultry AND fish…so yeah, you just proved my point. Thanks “MAGGOT”!! HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!

  15. Jo-Anne • October 23, 2009 @ 5:00 PM

    yeah…right…sure…that’s what you meant all along…dare I say it….definItely

  16. tributegirl • October 23, 2009 @ 5:41 PM

    “whatwever”
    I’m ROFLMFAO!!!!!

  17. tributegirl • October 23, 2009 @ 6:13 PM

btw, I think most seal hunters use a hakapik, I don’t think many use guns because of the water/ice & temperatures. These factors often cause trouble (jamming, etc) with the guns.

  18. Nancy • October 23, 2009 @ 6:28 PM

Yeah Tribute Troll, that is what I meant all along. The meat section of the food group….DUH! And yeah, yeah, so I made a spelling error…….WHOOPIE! Unlike you, I’m not perfect. I never claimed I was, so “whatwever”, just keep ‘corectin’ ’em. Knock yourself out…awe man, I wish! LOL.

  19. mandee • October 23, 2009 @ 6:52 PM

beast on October 23, 2009 8:59 AM no, i did not know some of those people eat the seals. i agree with you, i can not stand the thought of poachers killing for skins.

im not sure i see what the point is of having a debate about meat eaters and vegetarians? the topic at hand is seal hunters. anyway, i agree with nancy, eggs are baby chickens **i** would include them in the meat category lmao. also, im sure nancy didnt mean just pork and beef in her “meat” statement. anyway, i dont want to get myself in the middle of fights that dont matter, but i was just wondering why we are talking about meat and proteins.

  20. Monique • October 23, 2009 @ 8:55 PM

The seals are NOT being shot – they’re being clubbed to death – some as young as two weeks old. The second their fur goes from white to brown, they’re fair game.

Seals do NOT ruin the fisheries market – this is just stupid.

The seals are being skinned alive (most of them) and their fur is only worth $15. Their bodies are left to rot on the ice.

    How can this be acceptable?
I urge anyone who isn’t up to snuff with their facts, to check out this website: http://www.hsus.org/protectseals.html
Watch and LISTEN to the video’s – HEAR babies being clubbed to death, HEAR their cries and tell me that cubbing them and skinning them alive infront of their mothers is an OK thing to do.
If you think it is, you have no soul.

  21. Nancy • October 23, 2009 @ 10:46 PM

Mandee: It was brought up because Moviefan mentioned about there being enough grain in the world to feed the starving population if meat eaters would stop eating cows/chickens. I said that statement didn’t make any sense because if people stop eating cows/chickens, then they will eat more grain and the cows/chickens will also need to eat the grains to stay alive and they will reproduce as well so, the way I look at it is that MORE grain would be needed. Then I stated that meat is the best source of protein and that is when the LEECH came sucking for blood again and causing a scene. Otherwise, nothing would have been said about it unless Moviefan had replied to me. Anyways, about the article itself, this happens with many animals. I don’t agree with killing for certain “parts” either. Like killing elephants just for their ivory tusks. It is ridiculous! I understand that Eskimos do eat the meat as well as use their skin and I do agree with that but to just let most of it waste, they should be ashamed.

  22. mandee • October 23, 2009 @ 11:53 PM

i completely agree with your comment. especially the “dont agree with killing for certain parts either. Like killing elephants just for their ivory tusks. It is ridiculous!” part. how can you sleep at night knowing you killed an animal for such a stupid reason? i almost ran over a cat, he ran in front of my truck and i SWERVED into the other lane, went almost up on the curb of the other lane, still thought i had him and almost cried THEN. turns out i JUST missed him, and he ran off a second later. but, my heart stopped and i felt like i couldnt breathe and i was flipping out, thank god there wasnt any other cars out because i would have caused an accident to save the cat that ran out in front of me as fast as it could for no reason. i saw him, but he wasnt running he was just laying in the grass. it was night time. i would have flipped if he had of been run over by me !

  23. starman • October 24, 2009 @ 9:53 AM

when it comes to animals on the road, you have to remember it’s either you or them. If you swerve into on coming traffic just to miss the animal, then you are puting your life and the life of others at risk. Sometimes there is no other option but to hit the animal there is nothing wrong with that, because if you do not it could be your life that is lost!

  24. Jo-Anne • October 24, 2009 @ 10:22 AM

why wonder at the topic going in another direction mandee? Surely, that’s happened on many of your posts – there’s a book on your personal life history that you’ve offered on many articles on here, completely off topic. So, why say this now? right.

simple “I agree with Nancy” works for me. I don’t have a problem with that, I do understand you…

  25. mandee • October 24, 2009 @ 11:01 AM

my “book on my personal life history” has always had relevance to the topic at hand. i just dont see why there should be a FIGHT over proteins and meat. i cant help but notice you appear to be hostile towards me ever since my original “school run by satan” post on the suri cruise article. why is that exactly? so you picked on something i said, and on the adam lambert article i asked you why you didnt say something about all the terrible remarks, are you really this upset over it? im personally not fighting with you, and the fact that you have some problem with my agreeing with nancy is making me wonder if youre looking for some drama? i did NOT say that i agree with her calling you a “leech”. also, i didnt really see anything wrong with your comment to nancy originally or why she became so defensive. but you dont defend me in fights, so i am surely not going to defend you in fights. nancy has her own opinion of you, as do i and everyone else on here. and like i said, at the moment it just seems like youre out to try to cause drama with anyone you can.

  26. Jo-Anne • October 24, 2009 @ 2:24 PM

funny, I would have said it’s the other way round, mandee…you took offence that I didn’t jump to Lambert’s “defence” and choose to “defend” Suri???? Again, I’ll say it yet again…that’s absurd you would even point out something so petty. I’ve never been upset about your remark why do I not defend Adam as I do Suri – even saying it here looks and is ridiculous.

my ocmments on the Cruise post reflected many people’s posts and the words they used, not singling yourself out, as you choose to believe. So, I disagreed with their take on the post, isn’t that what we’re all here for, to give opinion? Why am I forced to explain myself constantly over something I thought was so painfully obvious?

I am not asking you to defend me, would prefer you to be honest with all your comments, whether in agreement with me or not. I’m not looking for anyone to mimic my thoughts, and welcome differing ones anytime, differing mature argument. The constant grade school name calling and vulgar profanity adopted by the same 3 on here I expect to surface every time I post, that’s clear, and the odd comment I take in jest, the rest I look at where it’s coming from and know these aren’t the type of people I ever have or would associate with in my life, which is in my control – on here it’s out of my control, so be it.

I’ve seen a number of sides to you mandee and I deal better with consistency, that being said, I guess we can agree to disagree….

if you don’t care for my posts…simple….don’t respond

  27. mandee • October 24, 2009 @ 8:33 PM

if you didnt take offence, why did you try to make it into a fight? i was just simply curious as to why you would choose to defend someone (i wasnt even MAKING FUN OF) and accuse me (well, and others) of making fun of her by choosing to include my comment in your little rant…but not have a little rant when someone FULL OUT bashes another human being based on the way they dress or if they wear makeup or not? NO ONE you included in your “hissy fit” actually insulted SURI. clearly, we wouldnt insult a baby when the article wasnt even about HER really, it was about tom and katies choice of school for her. i also made it pretty clear that i didnt accuse you of “singling” me out when i SAID i knew you werent singling me out…i never asked you to explain to me or anyone else why you choose to fight with EVERYONE over everything. i simply wanted to know if you were just trying to cause drama. when you so “obviously” go out of your way to make me look bad for saying i was surprised to see that tom would send her to a school thats not run by satan (meaning scient**satan**ology)its pretty clear youre not doing it to simply “disagree” youre doing it to cause a fight over something that shouldnt warrant one. also, i didnt actually call you any names or use vulgar language with you, so i dont know why you even included that in your message to me. also, EVERYONE has different sides, it depends on what they are going through in life, if they had a good or bad day, if they feel they need to defend themselves, if they feel they are being attacked verbally, if they feel like someone is constantly picking on them, if something sad has recently happened in their lives…you expect consistency? how do you expect to get that out of someone when the world is ever changing and you have no idea whats going on in my life?

  28. Nancy • October 24, 2009 @ 10:32 PM

Jo-Anne Oct. 24 2:24 PM: “My ocmments”…..hahahahaha, ‘miss perfect’ makes another one!

“The constant grade school name calling and vulgar profanity adopted by the same 3 on here I expect to surface every time I post, that’s clear, and the odd comment I take in jest, the rest I look at where it’s coming from and know these aren’t the type of people I ever have or would associate with in my life, which is in my control – on here it’s out of my control, so be it.”

OMG! And you have the NERVE to tell me on the front page Twilight article, that at my age I should “accept responsibility”???? HYPOCRITE! It was YOU….YOU, who came on here this past week and caused all this AGAIN! Example: Oct 16 Terminator Star article. No one said a word to or about you but yet, out of the blue, you jump right in there, with YOUR “grade school” BS, and comment to someone about Tributegirl, Gypsy and myself not having any intelligence! Do you really think we are just going to sit back and take your big mouth BS? I most certainly don’t! I’ll tell you to f@ck off in a heartbeat! As for not associating with me in your life…you should be thankful….HAG! Things run very smoothly on here when you are not causing sh!t!!! Oh, and for the record…the “3” you speak of I know are Tributegirl, Gypsy and myself…Tributegirl wasn’t using “vulgar profanity”, so stop making BS excuses.

  29. Jo-Anne • October 25, 2009 @ 2:55 PM

“if they had a good or bad day”….clearly you have had a bad one, mandee….it just goes on and on

nancy, calling out for help again…clearly can’t stand alone…you still believe trying to bully someone off this site with your idle threats is going to happen…

maybe you should all find yourselves an empty schoolyard and act out your biggest bully fantasies…

  30. Jo-Anne • October 25, 2009 @ 4:41 PM

“do you think i think about you and your constant fighting when im NOT on tribute? do you think anyone else does?”

    the obvious answer….YES

  31. mandee • October 25, 2009 @ 5:27 PM

hm.. anyways, nancy how have you been? and where is tributegirl do you know? i dont check the other articles often, so if she said she was staying off for a bit let me know please. im calling tomorrow to find out if theres any spots left for the january psw class. so far i have 140 saved of the 500, plus my mom is giving me money for christmas and my sis is giving me money for my birthday and christmas, so i will only need about 100 dollars to get in. also, i already have the school supplies, (pens, paper etc) the shoes i will need, all i need is one uniform (already have one of the 2 i need), tb test, flu shot, medical clearance and criminal record check. (do you know if i can use the one i just got for the daycare or if its invalid because it was done for sept?). so, as long as there is an opening, im pretty certain i will be going in january. if not, then i will get a job and go in sept for part time tues and thurs 6pm-10pm sept-june. 😀 ill keep you updated ! hope you dont mind all my personal info nancy.

  32. tributegirl • October 25, 2009 @ 7:33 PM

BAAAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHA!!!!! OMG!!! She actually believes that we think of her when we are not on this website? Wow, she is on one major ego trip! Guess I shouldn’t tell the poor dear that she doesn’t even cross my mind when I’m not on here, it might devastate her!
It was so nice when she wasn’t on here, there were no fights at all. The minute she comes back, the fighting starts. Guess that proves who starts it.
mandee, yes I’m still here, but have been so busy I haven’t been on often, and when I am it’s not for long. I don’t mind you putting personal info on here, just sometimes it concerns me, as per my first e-mail to you, but I know you know what you are doing, so I’m ok with it.
And I totally think you should go for the course, you are going to call tomorrow? I think that would be awesome. Sorry the child care job didn’t work out, I really thought it would. And as far as I’m aware, the criminal records checks are good for one year, but you do need one for each place that requests it. So the child care place would have it for one year, and you would get another for the course, they would have that one for one year, etc. Could be different where you are though, I’m not sure. Do you have to pay for yours? Where I am, so far it’s still free, but I don’t think for much longer.

  33. mandee • October 25, 2009 @ 7:58 PM

oh i agree with you there tg. have you noticed now shes picking on ME?

glad youre back, maybe you can spend some time defending yourself? lol

its 40-50 dollars here for the criminal check, and i am going to see if she will give me mine back since she wont be using it for anything lmao. but it might say child care on it, so you may be right, i may have to get it again. the job would have worked out if she had of paid me the original price she said she would pay me (400 per week, rather than 250 when i worked 45 hours a week!!) and if she did some of the actual WORK. ill keep you updated about the class and if i can go or not. hope that doesnt OFFEND some people…

  34. tributegirl • October 25, 2009 @ 8:08 PM

Oh yeah, I noticed! Actually I noticed a little while ago that she seemed to be getting a little snippy with you but seemed to almost be trying to hide it or something, but now, wow, she’s just being outright hateful, isn’t even trying to hide it anymore. I’m not going to spend too much time or energy defending myself against her, no matter what I say she twists and turns it anyway, so what’s the point? I say let her live in her little fantasy world where she’s the queen bee, I’d rather live in reality.
That’s a lot of money for the criminal record check! I didn’t realize it was that much, I’m glad ours are still free! But I don’t think it will be much longer, now they are getting so many requests it is taking up so much more of their time, so they will probably soon start charging for it. I’ve had to get them for several things, I volunteer at my kids schools, with minor hockey, minor baseball, used to volunteer with girl guides, loads of things, so if they start charging, I’m doomed! hahaha, maybe I’ll have to give up some of the volunteering, tell them I can’t afford it, then I’ll actually have some time to myself! As if!

  35. tributegirl • October 25, 2009 @ 8:10 PM

Btw, if your comment offends anyone, so be it! You are allowed to say whatever you want! Comments like this one: “simple I agree with Nancy works for me.”, I mean, so it works for her, who cares? You can still say what YOU want!

  36. mandee • October 25, 2009 @ 8:13 PM

i didnt really notice she was getting snippy, then again i dont really read too much into the comments i read either. meh, i dont care. like i said, its online i dont care what she thinks.

lmao. yeah good luck with getting time for yourself ! 😛 im glad its still free for you.

oh i was curious did you hear about this years flu shot? my sister said (i think she said 3) kids have already died from it, one within an hour his eyes were crossed and wouldnt move, turned out it did something to the muscles in his eyes and he had to have surgery to try to fix it. they require i get this new flu shot, so now im worried about it and dont want it lol. wonder if theres a way around getting it?

  37. mandee • October 25, 2009 @ 8:14 PM

i completely agree tributegirl. lol. i guess ive crossed over to “the dark side” huh? cant please everyone, so id really rather please no one hehehe 🙂 creepy smiley intended.

  38. Nancy • October 25, 2009 @ 8:18 PM

How the heck am I “calling out for help again”? I mentioned Tributegirl and Gypsy because you DID tell annunaki that the three of us are not intelligent.

“clearly can’t stand alone”…….BAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!! Chewin shrooms again, Troll?

“trying to bully someone off this site with your idle threats”………HUH? Where did I bully or threaten “someone”?

Tributegirl: I think of her when I have an upset stomach. Makes me puke my guts out and then that’s how I feel better. LMFAO! Oh, and when I drive past the trailer park and see the ho out front, the one with the black hairy legs, trying to pick up tricks.

Mandee: I’m great! And you? I just worry about some of the personal stuff. I’m a parent. I’m sorry mandee but, I’m glad the daycare didn’t work out because this way, you get to further your education and follow your dreams and be what you want to be. I’m a ‘tough-love’ type of person and I know I sound mean to people and you are no stranger to that but, sometimes that motivates people to better themselves. I know though, that sometimes it can also cause a person to feel really bad about their life and do something drastic. I never took you to be the latter. Anyways, I am very happy for you. I’m so glad you’re going through with this. 😀

im good actually nancy, thanks! im happy it didnt work out, but also sad. im sad because i will miss the babies soo much, especially the one that only likes me. but im happy (because youre right!) it gives me a chance to get things done in my life. i am the type of person that does things to prove to others that i CAN do it. im not the type to actually feel bad about my life lol or care what people think of me. it would be nice if my parents would help me out a bit more (just til i could get on track and i could pay them back) but they wont. i really hope there are some openings, ive put it off for wayyy too long.

I wish they would help you too, mandee, and give you more encouragement as well but, you know what? Go and do your very best and show them that you did it ALL on your own! It’s actually very satisfying knowing that, LOL. I am a very independent person….can you tell? Hahahaha.

defending yourself against me, t.g.??? wow…somehow the number of emails I have here (penned by yourself with reference to myself) would strongly suggest you NEED to defend yourself in a very large way…

gives whole new meaning to…what was the word you threw at myself…..hateful, yes that’s it….

    Hateful with a capitol H

    people in glass houses….that’s you

Mandee..I’m really proud of you for not giving up, and your going back to school. You should be proud of yourself also! THAT WOMAN WAS CLEARLY TAKEING ADVANTAGE OF YOU.I was talking to a friend about the criminal record check. He said if you just got one done in Sept it should be good to use for the PSW course in Jan.Did you keep the original or does the woman at daycare have it? I would get it back right away,if shes got it.You paid for it so it belongs to you, hopefully you won’t have to get another. As for the flu shot which one are you talking about, the regular one or the new one,you know that they are giving out 2 different shots this year.Do you need them both? Hell everyone needs someone to talk to, I’ve even opened up to certain people on here that I trust. There’s only a few but they made me feel alot better about things that were bothering me,as you were one of the 3 along with TG and Nancy very solid, mature adults!!!I thank you all, with that I will say Take Care!!!gotta catch the last few innings of the ballgame, I got 20$ riding on it.

  44. mandee • October 25, 2009 @ 11:02 PM

nancy, im hoping i can manage all on my own. i hate doing things that they pay for (without me paying it back) because they tend to say things like “if it werent for US…” and it irritates me to no end lol. im trying to get more independent so any words of advice you can give me would be great and very much appreciated. (never done things by myself before! meaning like, shopping alone etc)

gypsy, nice to see you again! the woman at the daycare has the original, but i think working with children or the elderly are the same part that needs to be filled out. i am going to ask her about giving it back to me tomorrow. i hope i remember to ask. and youre right, she was taking advantage of me, she told me when i left (or if) she would find someone else, well now shes decided shes not shes getting rid of almost all the kids and only keeping 2-3. so, obviously no one else would ever work those hours for that small amount of money. the flu shot i mean is the regular one, they change it every year. not the swine flu one. i actually have no idea if i need BOTH shots, i will have to find out. (id prefer not to get any shots because i rarely get sick! but the shots make me very very ill!!) i share with anyone that wants to know about me (which for a while WAS jo) i just think its petty and pathetic to run around and bring up things ive said about my life or my past or whatnot. good luck with your game, lemme know if you win lol! and thanks to you as well! i really enjoy talking to you a lot and im glad we can get along after our little rough patch.

ps. jo, feel free to try to stir up as much trouble between me and nancy, me and tributegirl, or me and anyone you want. i have no problems with that, and im sure they will agree with me 🙂 also its sad that you cant just accept that im not fighting with you on this article anymore so now youre trying to cause fights between those of us that ARENT fighting with each other. well, me and tg and me and nancy and me and gypsy havent fought in a while, and i can assure you nothing you say or do is going to change that. its pretty funny to me though that you proved my point, you always try to get the last word in and cant ever just let anything go. when you are ready to act civil, let me know. im still ready and willing. unlike you, i dont hold a grudge.

by the way, just wondering, do any of you ladies watch dexter? its such a great show, i just got season 1 for 15 dollars, i got season 2 about 6 months ago for 12 dollars (better than full retail price at about 35 each!!!) also, the new season is FINALLY out. and its such a great season. i think the best so far. if any of you watch it, what did you think of todays and last weeks episodes?

  46. Nancy • October 25, 2009 @ 11:07 PM

Tribute Troll: “Hateful”…with a capital ‘H’, is a much nicer word than what I would have “penned” to you!

  47. tributegirl • October 26, 2009 @ 2:13 PM

mandee, no I don’t watch Dexter, but I have heard it’s good. Also, regarding the course, etc, Nancy is right, if you are determined to do it all on your own you will feel so much satisfaction, you will be very happy with yourself. I wouldn’t even think about the possibility of your parents helping, they won’t, so might as well put that out of your mind and just go forward yourself.
As far as the regular flu shots, I don’t even think they are giving them out yet, except to high-risk people, but the h1n1 shots have started in some provinces. I haven’t heard of any problems with the regular flu shots or the h1n1 shots yet. BUT, I did hear about a 12 year old girl (in Ontario I think?) who had MILD flu symptoms, was taken to the doctor, confirmed h1n1, sent home, died the next day. The real surprising thing here (to me, anyway) is apparently she had no underlying conditions, was an otherwise very healthy young girl. This is the first death that I’ve heard of where there were NO underlying conditions, so I actually find that very scary.

I have watched Dexter before but not for a long time. What I saw of it was good, I just don’t have time. There are other shows that I really like. I’m right into a few new shows this season. ‘Trauma’, which is on tonight, is really good; The Forgotten is my favourite this season so far, it’s on tomorrow night.

Mandee: ALWAYS think positive; hold your head high (because the weak get taken advantage of), and don’t take no sh!t…especially from Trolls! 😛

Troll: What, no reply? Did you notice I said “capitAl” H?

  49. mandee • October 26, 2009 @ 6:32 PM

tg, dexter is an amazing show!! so far its only on its 4th season, best season so far ! (then again, i think that everytime i watch one lol!) i just got the first season for 15 dollars from kijiji. its good bc its 35 in stores and VERY hard to find ! also, i agree with your entire comment tributegirl!

nancy, things are getting great in dexter! i am so addicted to it! i like fringe, lie to me, HOUSE (especially) i havent caught any of fringe or lie to me this season, but never miss house or dexter. also, thanks for the advice 😀 talk 2 u all later, house will be on in a bit and i gotta check my email still lol.

  50. tributegirl • October 26, 2009 @ 8:46 PM

mandee, I LOVE kijiji! Bought and sold a lot of stuff on there! I really don’t watch much tv, I have 3 kids, so if I’m not working, I’m usually doing something with them, someday they will all be out on their own and I’ll have plenty of time to watch tv then, and I’m NOT looking forward to that day!

  51. Nancy • October 26, 2009 @ 10:32 PM

Well, I AM looking forward to that day, hahahaha!!! I love my babies but I can’t wait to have my freedom back. I think that is because I do double time…mom AND dad. I have a stack of books I want to read and I’m saving all my Airmiles for a nice trip (hopefully! If they don’t cancel the program by then!). I know though that I will regret saying this and feeling this way. I’m going to miss them soooo much…I just know it. I have always been with them and I know I am going to worry about them constantly.

  52. tributegirl • October 27, 2009 @ 1:08 PM

Oh, I know I’ll miss them, but I’ll find lots of ways to keep myself occupied. I remember a lady once telling me she could hardly wait for her kids to move out, so she would finally be able to have a clean bathroom (?), now she would go back in time if she could, regrets wishing their childhoods away.
