Corey Haim was “broke and destitute”

corey_haimCorey Haim was “broke and destitute” when he died, says his friend Corey Feldman. Haim was declared dead upon arrival at St Joseph’s hospital in Burbank, California, at 2:15 am Wednesday morning. Feldman, who befriended Haim when they shared the screen in the 1987 hit The Lost Boys, said on Larry King Live Wednesday night: “When he died, Corey was living in the Oakwood Apartments with his mom, very broke, very destitute. Oakwood is month-to-month living. He didn’t even have a car. He had nobody to turn to.” Feldman was “devastated” when he learned of Haim’s death. He is angry with the celebrities who have gone public with their grief. “I appreciate the fact that everybody really cares and, and is trying to show their expression of sorrow right now, but at the end of the day, where were all these people the last ten years, the last 15 years of Corey’s life?” Feldman said. “Where were all these people to lend a hand out, to reach out to him and say… you’re an amazingly talented, wonderful person who’s really never gone out of his way to hurt anybody other than himself.” Feldman revealed he stopped speaking to Haim in 2008 because the actor refused to seek help for his substance abuse problems. They started speaking again this year, and Feldman says Haim was doing “so much better” in the months before his death. Feldman claims Haim’s mother’s breast cancer diagnosis had forced the star to take responsibility. “He got his act together. He was doing so much better,” Feldman said. “It was the first time I ever saw Corey grow up. He was grown up. He was responsible. He was there with her every day for the chemotherapy… I actually picked them both up from the hospital and drove them back to their apartment, because he didn’t have a car. It was the first time in my life that I had ever seen Corey really be that responsible, stand-up guy.”

Um…didn’t Feldman say about 5 yrs ago that he washed his hands of their friendship and that he wasn’t going to stand by and watch Haim destroy himself? So in essence, Feldman turned his back on him too. What a hypocrite.

What happened to all the young, bright, shiny stars of the 80’s? So sad…thanks for the memories dude!

Sometimes having the strength to “wash your hands” of a relationship is an act of love as well. If Haim was so far gone at the time – sometimes you gotta say I can’t have anything to do with you until you clean up. Otherwise Feldman would be an enabler. At least he stuck with him through all of that time – and helped him when he could – until helping became enabling.

Hey bozo’s, did you even read the article? It says in the article they stopped speaking in 2008 because Haim would not seek help for drugs, and that they started talking again this year. They were good friends and friends sometimes have fall outs….give the guy a break, Feldman has not exactly what the easiest life either, and the fact Feldman has overcome his own drug addictions probably made the situation all that more difficult…no need to be heartless.

I just wish that all these celebrities could have friends that will stand by them and not abuse their status. Everyone needs solid people in their lives who won’t take their crap and will watch out for them. It makes me think back to Michael Jackson and his issues of not being able to trust people as they always ended up taking advantage of him.

He didn’t even have a car.”

Good thing! Considering he was constantly all pilled out! Could you imagine THAT on the roads?

He did have Feldman, until his EX-wife pitted them against each other while filming The Two Cory’s.The broad was/is a cold hearted, selfish, jealous WHO ORE PUS-INFUSED SLUG MUTT,AND I’m being nice!!!!

And then she left Feldman and took his kid. What is it with these celebrities who marry b!tches? Michael Jackson said that the thing that kept him from marrying (before Lisa-Marie) was seeing how wretched his brothers were in their marriages. The person you marry can make your life a living hell (or make it paradise), it’s really important to choose wisely.

I was going to say Johnny, yes, I agree with your comment no need to be heartless, however also add no need to call anyone “bozo’s” either, but after reading gyp’s trash talk, yours seems…well…strikingly polite… haha

The funny thing is, the part in the article that Johnny pointed out wasn’t there at first, it was added in later. What a bozo!

I just think that it is a horrible situation all the way around. Feldman did what he thought was right. What more can you ask for? If you were in the same situation do you really know what you would do? I don’t think any of us know what we would do. The truth is you like to think that you would do one thing, but may end up doing something totally different when you are actually in that situation. Fact remains that he loved his friend dearly and did what he could and what he thought was right. I applaude his efforts.
