Corey Haim‘s family is holding a private memorial service for the late actor in Thornhill, Ontario, just north of Toronto. Steeles Memorial Chapel is reportedly helping cover the funeral costs. Chapel employee John Fuchs told ctvtoronto.ca this morning that he’s unable to discuss the details, saying, “Everything is confidential.” Although Access Hollywood reported over the weekend that the city of Toronto is helping to pay for the funeral, Haim’s family is denying that. When Haim died last week at age 38, he had very little money, so the owner of a celebrity memorabilia site named Startifacts.com who knew Haim personally is donating $20,000 towards the costs of his funeral. A PayPal account was set up on the actor’s website asking for donations, but by March 13, it was announced that they’d received enough money to cover the cost of transporting Haim’s body home to Toronto as well as enough to cover the funeral expenses. Haim was born in Toronto but moved to Los Angeles in his early teens when he began to get successful in Hollywood. He lived most of his life in Los Angeles and collapsed in his mother’s apartment on March 10, where he’d been taking care of her as she battled cancer. He was pronounced dead shortly afterwards at St. Joseph’s hospital in Burbank, California. ~Alexandra Heilbron
