By Tribute on June 17, 2014 | 24 Comments

Cosmos: A Spacetime Odyssey, is a four disc set on Blu-ray with over two hours of extra footage. Astrophysicist Dr. Neil deGrasse Tyson hosts the 13-episode series. Known for making science and the world around us accessible and understandable to mainstream audiences, Dr. Tyson guides the viewer through the latest and greatest scientific discoveries both on Earth and throughout the universe. The episodes are visually stunning and use all the latest film technology, including  CGI, to draw viewers in and present a clearer understanding of the subject matter discussed.

Cosmos is a continuing chapter from the 1980 television series Cosmos: A Personal Voyage, which was hosted by Carl Sagan, an American astronomer, astrophysicist and cosmologist also known for making science palpable and accessible to the masses. Carl’s widow Ann Druyan, who is the writer of the new Cosmos series, continues the vision of sharing information and possibilities in the scientific field with viewers. The series emphasizes scientific exploration and the relevance of science in modern day life.

The special features give the viewer a behind-the-scenes look at the creators and supporters of Cosmos: A Spacetime Odyssey, as well as illustrate the challenges and joys of the scientific field. Seth MacFarlane appears on the Blu-ray as a supporter and collaborator of the series, even participating in voice work during some of the animation sequences. Other voice talents include Patrick Stewart, Kirsten Dunst and Richard Gere.

Special Features:

Audio Commentary on Premiere Episode: Standing Up in the Milky Way with writer Ann Druyan, producer Mitchell Cannold, producer/director Brannon Braga, producer Jason Clark and animation producer Kara Vallow.

Celebrating Carl Sagan: A Selection From the Library of Congress Dedication is hosted by Seth MacFarlane, who speaks about the joys and conflicts of science in modern times.

Any Comic-Con fan will enjoy the Cosmos: A Spacetime Odyssey panel (introduction by Seth MacFarlane) and look at Neil deGrasse Tyson’s time at Comic-Con in Cosmos: A Spacetime Odyssey at Comic-Con 2013.

Disc Four encourages the viewer to keep exploring the future possibilities of science with Cosmos: A Spacetime Odyssey – The Voyage Continues and an interactive Cosmic Calendar.

The Cosmos Blu-ray is a fascinating look at the current and future state of science and is perfect as an introduction and guide to those unfamiliar with the field. The visuals are captivating and host Dr. Tyson presents the material in an enjoyable and intelligent manner. ~Andrea Hodgins

I would love to win this for my husband. He watches and tapes it on the television. God forbid I try to erase an episode.

  2. Dan Revill • June 17, 2014 @ 10:25 AM

I would love to win a copy since I do not have cable tv & therefore could not watch it when it aired. The exploration of our universe is one of the most fascinating subjects out there, and really, it covers a plethora of subjects.

Science was my major in school and I have always been fascinated with it. The more we discover the more we realise how little we actually know. My partner and I would truly enjoy sitting down together to watch this.

This was a very nice reboot of the classical Carl Sagan serie. There is so much information in each episode, a Bluray could be handy to recap!

I would love to win this; as this is stuff my teenager loves to explore & read up on…her mind never stops. She loves learning about this kind of stuff. She would be so fascinated.

I’ve always been fascinated with Astronomy. Plus the kids are like knowledge sucking mini-geniuses so this would be perfect for them. And of course it would look and sound fabulous on my 55″ LED tv with surround sound! 🙂

I have honestly just started watched this series and I am so hooked. I watched three episodes last night and was up until 5am. I couldn’t stop; paying for it for sure today but completely worth it. I would love to win a copy of this series so I could watch them whenever I desired and also share the joy and knowledge this series provides to all I can.

    Thank you for the opportunity.

My daughter and I thoroughly enjoyed the parts we did see (we have no cable, so reception was weather dependent).

Well thought out, even surprising (I didn’t know where we were going next). It really started to open my daughter’s eyes to the grandeur of what the cosmos is. Let’s just say, I think the series planted the seed it needed to, hopefully ushering in a new era of dicovery and introspection about the world we live in. Just maybe, we might be booting up the hard drive of the kids of today with this series.

Two weeks ago my PVR died. I had all the episodes recorded to watch them over the summer. I lost everything. I would love to see the series.

My son and I would watch those shows, however there were some that we missed. I especially liked the early shows. The use of the little spaceship for travel gave a comprehension for size which was helpful. A great series. We would love to get a set of Discs.

  18. Laurie Smith • June 17, 2014 @ 7:42 PM

This is the best show on tv right now! I find it fascinating. I always get disappointed when I have to miss it. With having it on blu-ray I could watch it whenever I want.

Watched the entire series on television and would love to own the series on DVD! A lot of the episodes made my fiance cry because he’s a science geek.

  21. Angela • June 18, 2014 @ 2:40 AM
