Crime novelist Elmore Leonard dies at 87

Crime novelist and screen writer Elmore Leonard, 87, died today in Detroit, Michigan following complications from a stroke earlier this month. He died at his home in Bloomfield Village. Many of his best-known novels were adapted into films such as Out of Sight, Jackie Brown and Get Shorty. According to an update posted on his website, Leonard “passed away this morning at 7:15 a.m. at home surrounded by his loving family.” He published more than 45 books focused on contemporary crime stories. His 1978 novel, The Switch, was adapted into a movie, Life of Crime, and will be screenedat this year’s Toronto International Film Festival. ~ Marriska Fernandes
