Judge Manuel Real has dismissed David Beckham’s libel lawsuit against In Touch magazine.
Last year the publication ran a story claiming Beckham had cheated on his wife Victoria more than once with a prostitute named Irma Nici. However, Beckham denies it, saying he was with his ailing father in London at the times Nici says she was with him.
The judge ruled that there was no evidence the magazine meant “actual malice,” stating that because Beckham is a public figure, allegations of him committing adultery would be of interest to the public.
Elizabeth McNamara, who represented In Touch in court, said the magazine did everything possible to corroborate details from the prostitute’s on-the-record interview, and that Nici’s account was “entirely consistent with Mr. Beckham’s reputation as a serial philanderer.”
Beckham’s lawyer, Richard B. Kendall, vows to appeal.
