Kenneth Branagh in Death on the Nile Three new movies made it into the top five at the box office this weekend, with one of them taking over the top spot.

Death on the Nile starring Kenneth Branagh as Agatha Christie’s famous Belgian detective, Hercule Poirot, with Gal Gadot as a newlywed on her honeymoon, debuted in first place at the box office with $12.8 million.

Dropping one spot to second was the final Jackass film, Jackass Forever. The action/comedy film earned an additional $8.1 million for a two-week total of $40 million.

The new romantic comedy Marry Me, starring Jennifer Lopez and Owen Wilson as an unlikely couple, opened simultaneously in theaters and on the streaming service Peacock. It debuted in third place with $8 million, which was lower than expected, but it’s expected to bring in a decent return on Monday (Valentine’s Day).

Despite dropping a spot to fourth, Spider-Man: No Way Home continues to hold up well, earning an additional domestic total of $7.2 million for a nine-week total of $759 million. Within the next few days, the blockbuster will take third place on the top grossing domestic movies chart from Avatar, which earned $760.5 million.

Rounding out the top five was Blacklight starring Liam Neeson as a fixer for the FBI. The action/thriller took in $3.6 million in its debut weekend. ~Alexandra Heilbron
