Dirty Dancing remake planned

Following in the footsteps of Footloose, which has been remade and will be released to theaters on October 14, Lionsgate has just announced that it will remake Dirty Dancing, which starred Patrick Swayze. Kenny Ortega, who actually choreographed the original 1987 film, will direct this time around. “The opportunity to direct Dirty Dancing is like returning home for me,” Ortega, who is best known by the younger generation for directing and choreographing all three High School Musical movies, said in a press release: “Growing up in the ’60s on the dance floor helped define me as a person and as an artist. Patrick Swayze set the bar for men dancing in the movies as Gene Kelly and Fred Astaire did before him. I believe everywhere you look there is evidence that the talent is out there and I can’t wait to begin the process of discovering the next breakout triple-threats.” Ortega is pictured above directing Vanessa Hudgens and Zac Efron in High School Musical 3: Senior Year. Jennifer grey is not mentioned in this article at all. Are they gonna try to pull off a movie with no female lead?
Proof again that Hollywood is out of original ideas and just wants to coast by on remaking previous hit/cult movies.
Hollywood isn’t out of original ideas, it’s just that 80% of them are garbage.
THIS WILL SUCK THE BIG ONE IF NOT DONE PERFECTLY!! I think if they are really going to do it they should get Derek Hough to play Johnny. Female lead… don’t have a clue.
I keep hearing the reason for remakes is for the newer generation. This upsets me. Does that make th original movie an acutal classic? Shouldn’t the classic be the best version, which makes it a darn classic! Why mess with perfection? I would be shocked to see a 2017 version of Star Wars (40yr anniversary for a remake if you want the math), and see them try to duplicate the chemistry of the characters and duplicate the scenes and such. I would be appauled. Or what if even if Disney tried to make another Snow White or Steamboat Willy cartoon! Doesn’t work!
Leave well enough alone Hollywood, find a new movie to become a classic. Like Avatar will go down in history as one. Dark Knight will as well for being a major superhero benchmark classic. At least these are in this generation and really shouldn’t even try to duplicate those feats in the future.
Anyway I may not be a big fan of Dirty Dancing but why remake something even I know is a classic (cult or blockbuster). Just like Footloose. I saw the previews recently for Footloose and it’s like scene for scene a remake. Come on.
I totally disagree with C-DUB. Re-makes should be done. Seeing a movie for only up to 2 hrs. and Not experiencing it again; that I Dont like! Especially if I very much enjoyed it!! But I do agree that if there badly done as is most of them, then why bother making them??!! Waste of our money and time. I think the re-make of Dirty Dancing will be Very Good because look at who’s Directing!
Remakes can be fun, if they’re done well. Footloose looks like it might be good – the dancing and music have been updated for this generation, so why not?
I don’t think this is a good idea. there is nothing wrong with the original. it doesn’t need a facelift or anything. it’s pretty perfect just the way it is. This is going to be pretty hard to pull off as successful.
If they’re going to take these movies and “update” them, why don’t they just make an entirely new movie. The basic plot line of Dirty Dancing isn’t exactly rocket science. They can make something similar. I don’t understand.
WTF!!!! they cannot remake Dirty Dancing or Footloose! These movies are classics, they cannot be redone. The original actors and actresses made the movie. This is completely ridiculous. Why is Hollywood continually remaking movies that should not be touched? Are they out of ideas? I mean a lot of stuff coming out of Hollywood is questionable, but come on remaking a classic? I will not be seeing either of these movie remakes, Patrick Swayze and Kevin Bacon cannot be replaced in these movies no actor today can pull it off. Hollywood needs to leave the classics along and start coming out with their own ideas–not so iconic has come out since

The movie industry is doomed if they have to do this.
So will they give it a modern take and add some booty dancing, some street dancers, Britney Spears and call it a Dirt Dacing Saves the Last Dance and gets Fired Up remake
