Drake cancels meet and greets after Christina Grimmie murder

DrakeDrake shows up in a Lamborghini to The Nice Guy has cancelled all upcoming VIP meet and greets at his concerts.

In the wake of The Voice singer Christina Grimmie’s murder following her concert in Orlando last week, a number of singers are reexamining their proximity to their fans.

Although Drake has reportedly cancelled the meet and greets because of “scheduling issues,” many are speculating if the Canadian singer/rapper is questioning his mortality.

Justin Bieber also cancelled his meet and greets following Grimmie’s murder and a number of celebrities are pulling down any personal information from their social media.

Christina Grimmie was shot by a crazed fan who waited in line with other fans as she was signing autographs and taking pictures with fans. When it was his turn to meet her, he walked up to the table and shot her.

Do you think Drake’s decision to cancel his meet and greets is related to Grimmie’s death? If so, is it the right choice?

A little drastic. Stars shouldn’t be giving in to the fear that a crazed fan might take things a too far. You can’t run your life on the assumption that something terrible could happen.

I think the choice is his to make as long as he returns money to his fans and allows them to keep their concert seat. You can’t live your life in fear but at the same time you only have one so sometimes we have to chose what we feel safest with

Sorry not sorry things like this^ happen in U.S. Not in Canada. They should have scanned and search everyone. It should be mandatory.

False. Justin canceled his meet and greets far before the incident with Christina. He cancelled due to the depression it was causing him. I don’t think that drake cancelling his has anything to do with having fear it could happen to him as he’s playing much larger venues, with metal detectors, and more thourough searches. He also can afford much heftier security team than Christina could.

A star should totally feel free to put restrictions on personal contact with fans, for those who paid extra that money should be refunded, being famous should not mean if you feel threatened you are obligated to put yourself at risk, that is a personal decision you have every right to make without criticism

Nowadays everyone should be scanned in every entrance of every public event, even bars/nightclubs its sad but true. I truly don’t feel very safe going to public places anymore and I’m in my 20’s!

Drake obviously does not want to get shot and end up in a wheelchair like Aubtrey Graham on DeGrassi…

Christian’s venue did not have metal detectors . They only checked bags not the bodies.
Bieber cancelled a long time before this incident.
Any of the artists have a right to not have meet and greets. It is their lives and people are just getting crazier.
Soon we may be seeing them up on stage behind bullet proof glass.

Sadly, this is what gun culture produces; the sense that every person has the right, as well as ability to silence or murder anyone they do not like, don’t agree with their politics or stands, hate themselves and want to die in a blaze of bullets, or are seeking infamy.

As much as some celebrities build disapproval and dislike from some of the public, they have every right to maintain the level of security they feel is required for their sense of safety, and sadly this is becoming a greater and greater risk to them. The ease of access to firearms, the lack of proper screening and a culture of entitlement by fans of celebrities, as well as so much untreated mental illness all adds to the risk celebrities face.

Close fan access by entrance fee is asking for trouble, as it further expands the uncontrolled risk to celebrities.

Drake is no idiot. Whether he fears being injured or killed, or he simply thinks he no longer wants to allow for that kind of access by credit card, is his choice. Yes, of course he should see all fees are refunded and concert tickets maintained for those who paid for this extra, but it is always the prerogative of any public figure to withdraw from any event they feel places them at risk, regardless of how disappointed fans might be, as long as ticket fees are returned. To those who buy tickets from scalpers, and pay hundreds or thousands more than the base price of the ticket, sorry, you take your chances when you support scam artists. The extra money you pay doesn’t go to the venue or artists, it goes into the pocket of misanthropes who do not deserve the time of day.

It’s his choice because it’s his life. I don’t know what I’d do if I were in his position but he has to feel comfortable. Definitely don’t think he’s overreacting. It’s sad that this world is so crazy that it’s come to this.
