Easter weekend movie releases

Easter weekend means it will be a busy time for moviegoers to head to theaters for the newest releases. Opening today, Johnny Depp stars in the thriller Transcendence, playing a researcher who winds up integrated in the very technology he was working on. Disneynature’s newest documentary, Bears, tells the story of a mother bear who teaches her cubs to survive in the Alaskan wilderness. This movie is for all ages and features gorgeous cinematography of the bears and their surroundings. Trailer Park Boys: Don’t Legalize It brings back the gang from the hit TV series as they head to Ottawa to stop the government from legalizing marijuana so that Ricky’s (Robb Wells) dope trade isn’t threatened.

Also for comedy fans, Marlon Wayan‘s sequel A Haunted House 2 is about a family who moves into their dream home, only to discover paranormal activity. It opens in Toronto, Vancouver, Montreal and Halifax. Annette Bening heads the cast in The Face of Love, which features an interesting premise as she plays a widow who meets a man (Ed Harris) who’s a dead ringer for her late husband. It opens in Toronto, Vancouver, Ottawa, Waterloo and Montreal but will open in other major cities throughout spring. Heaven is for Real, which opened Wednesday, is based on the bestselling book about four-year-old Colton Burpo who saw heaven during a life-saving operation. I don’t see Small Time in that summary of new releases…

Maybe that’s because it’s playing in one theatre in all of Canada? Sounds like a dud, anyway….
