Evangeline Lilly joins The Hobbit cast

Peter Jackson has posted some exciting casting news on Facebook. Evangeline Lilly, who played Kate on Lost, will be playing a new character—Tauriel, the Woodland Elf, in The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey. Jackson didn’t want to give too much away about the role she’ll be playing, but revealed that her name means “daughter of Mirkwood” and that there’s no romantic connection to Legolas. He wrote: “What is not a secret is how talented and compelling an actress Evangeline is; we are thrilled and excited she will be the one to bring our first true Sylvan Elf to life.” Also, Barry Humphries (better known as Dame Edna) will be portraying the Goblin King, Welsh actor Luke Evans will play Bard and Benedict Cumberbatch has been cast as Smaug, which rounds out the casting of the major roles.
