Ewan McGregor to replace Johnny Depp

Ewan McGregor has been chosen to replace Johnny Depp opposite Robert Duvall in Terry Gilliam‘s new film, The Man Who Killed Don Quixote, because Depp will be busy shooting another Pirates of the Caribbean sequel. Gilliam told Empire magazine: “Robert Duvall is one of the greats, no question — and he can ride a horse! And Ewan has gotten better over the years. He was wonderful in The Ghost Writer. There’s a lot of colours to Ewan that he’s not been showing recently and it’s time for him to show them again. He’s got a great sense of humour and he’s a wonderful actor. He’s wonderfully boyish and can be charming – when he flashes a smile, everybody melts. He wields it like a nuclear bomb!” McGregor will play a 21st-century advertising executive who travels back in time to 17th-century Spain, where he meets Quixote and becomes involved in his adventures.

Isn’t Robert Duvall the guy who dissed Canada and Canadian actors when he was here filming a movie? Ick. Good for Ewan though, he’s terrific.

    Seen, mandee.

Anyway, I’ve always thought Ewan McGregor was terribly under-appreciated (that a word? :S ). I think he’s more than fantastic!

Amy, you’re thinking of Billy Bob Thornton, not Robert Duvall.

No, it was Robert Duvall. Billy Bob was rude to a Canadian radio show host last year, but this happened when Duvall was filming Open Range in Alberta with Kevin Costner in 2003. He said in an interview that he hated working in Canada and how Canadian actors were awful.

Ya, Amy you are correct. He said Canadian actors were inferior and that Canadians were basically rednecks. Never liked him after that comment. Apparently, after the fact, he did apologise to Canadians. Johnny would have been definately the #1 choice in the Don Quixote film.
