Frozen co-director to adapt A Wrinkle In Time for Disney

Do you wanna build a franchise? Jennifer Lee, who co-directed the hit Disney animated film, Frozen, will write a big-screen adaptation of Madeleine L’Engle’s famous children’s novel, A Wrinkle In Time. The film will be Lee’s third collaboration writing for the House of Mouse after penning scripts for Wreck-It Ralph and Frozen. A Wrinkle In Time, the debut novel in L’Engle’s Time Quintet series, focuses on Meg Murray, a young girl who must travel through time to save her father, a missing government scientist working on a secret project.

The film, which has been in development since its announcement in 2010, will be produced by Jim Whitaker and Catherine Hand, who previously produced the TV movie adaption of A Wrinkle In Time for ABC, Disney’s subsidiary, in 2003. A director has not yet been announced.

Lee reportedly impressed Disney executives with her interpretation of the beloved fantasy novel, which was one of her childhood favorites. According to Variety, Lee’s story will feature a “strong female-driven narrative,” not unlike Frozen. Sounds like a passion project she just couldn’t let go. ~Daniel Horowitz
