Hobbit sequel a no-go for Comic-Con 2013

Director Peter Jackson will be taking some extra time to work on the highly anticipated film The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug. Sadly for fans, this means no appearance of the film’s footage or cast at San Diego’s Comic-Con this year. According to Peter, there will be nothing to show J.R.R. Tolkien fans because the film is still in production and cannot spare its cast or crew. Last July, Peter brought some of the cast of the first film in the trilogy, The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey, to promote its arrival.

The 51-year-old director broke the news through a video on his official Facebook page, saying, “I told Warner that I just really wasn’t ready to present anything of The Desolation of Smaug at Comic-Con this year. We’re still shooting and we’re gonna be shooting through the period of Comic-Con, so we looked at what actors we could send to make a really cool panel. There wasn’t really anybody available. I can’t go.” The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug is deemed the biggest fantasy film of the year with a slated release of December 13. ~Naomi Leanage
