According to reports, British actor Hugh Laurie is in negotiations to star as the villain in MGM and Sony’s remake of the 1987 sci-fi action flick Robocop. If the infamous House TV series actor decides to join the cast, he will be working alongside Pulp Fiction‘s Samuel L. Jackson, Batman Begins actor Gary Oldman, and Safe House‘s Joel Kinnaman, who have already been cast. The original 1987 film is set in a futuristic, crime-ridden Detroit run by a massive corporation. It focuses on a wounded police officer reconstructed as a cyborg named Robocop, who is dealing with memories that haunt him. If all goes as planned, Laurie will be playing the rich and evil CEO of Omnicorp – the company that produces Robocop. The film will be directed by Brazilian filmmaker, José Padilha (Elite Squad), and filming is set to commence in Toronto this September, with a release date of August 9, 2013. ~Stacy Raivich
