Hunger Games: Mockingjay tops weekend box office for third week

The weekend following American Thanksgiving is infamous for being one of the slowest box office weekends of the year, with Christmas approaching and moviegoers busy preparing for the holidays. This weekend the box office was similar to last weekend’s results. The Hunger Games: Mockingjay- Part 1 was in the top spot for the third weekend in a row. The film continues to dominate the box office and earned an estimated $21.6 million this weekend. The first part of the final installment of the franchise follows Katniss (Jennifer Lawrence) at the heart of the rebellion against President Snow (Donald Sutherland) and the Capitol. The futuristic film currently holds a 2.92 star Tribute user rating.
In its second weekend at theatres the Madagascar spinoff Penguins of Madagascar held on to second place. The popular penguin characters brought in an estimated $11.1 million and currently holds a nearly perfect 4.55 star Tribute user rating. Up two spots from last week was the comedy Horrible Bosses 2 with $8.6 million. The sequel that reunites stars Jason Bateman, Jason Sudeikis and Charlie Day currently holds a 3.32 star Tribute user rating. Disney’s Big Hero 6 dropped one spot to land in fourth place. The animated feature, which has been out for five weeks, currently holds a 4.40 star Tribute user rating after earning an additional $8.13 million this weekend. Rounding out the top five was Christopher Nolan‘s sci-fi thriller Interstellar which dropped from its fourth place spot last week. The film currently holds a 3.92 star Tribute user rating and earned $8 million in its fifth weekend at the box office.
An honorable mention goes to Wild, starring Reese Witherspoon, which brought in $630,000 in limited release. Reese has received a lot of awards buzz for her portrayal of Cheryl Strayed, a woman who went on a 1,000-mile hike alone. ~Janine Wyslobicky

i only wish that my grandchildren enjoy Christmas as much as I did when I was young. Their happiness is the best gift my wife and I could possibly want as grandparents. Besides we are at the age that we often get gifts for each other when the price is right and the gift is wanted.
