In Conclusion, Don’t Worry About It – book review

Lauren GrahamLauren Graham, better known as Lorelai Gilmore from the hit series Gilmore Girls, has advice for young graduates. After all, she was Rory’s mom for seven seasons. “Whatever path you choose, whatever career you decide to go after, the important thing is that you keep finding the joy in what you’re doing, especially when the joy isn’t finding you.”

Her new book, In Conclusion, Don’t Worry About It, is an expansion of the 2017 commencement speech she gave at her hometown Langley High. She reflects on her dreams and pursuing her acting career, which wasn’t as easy as you’d imagine.

Imagine Lauren using her hilarious Lorelai voice, as she draws a road map on how to be happy with whatever life throws your way. We all remember the billion things jumping in our head as young grads as we questioned life and our future, but Lauren uses her experience to remind high school kids (and us) that your job doesn’t define you — your bravery, kindness and gratitude do.

It’s a quick 45-page read in which she offers advice with wit, humor and just the right amount of inspiration to remind readers to not worry about life and the journey you’re on.

Her journey of being a struggling actress might not be relatable, but she does draw examples from simple scenarios to give you a valuable lesson. I enjoyed reading this book. It’s not heavy material. I mean, can you imagine Lorelai Gilmore reading a self-help book on success? No. Lauren makes this one a worthy read for everyone — from young grads to adults in need of some healthy words of wisdom.

As Lauren puts it, “Have no fear of perfection — you’ll never reach it.” Just kidding. She borrowed this quote from Salvador Dali. Instead she says, “Don’t worry so much.” ~Marriska Fernandes
