James Cameron nearly hit Harvey Weinstein with Oscar

James Cameron has revealed in a recent interview that he nearly bashed disgraced movie producer and alleged rapist Harvey Weinstein with an Oscar award. Yes, you read that right.
The almost-altercation occurred at the Academy Awards ceremony in 1998, the same night Cameron was on the receiving end of an incredible 11 Oscars for his film Titanic. Seems Cameron didn’t just own the night, as he nearly owned Weinstein, too.
In an interview with Vanity Fair, Cameron detailed the run-in: “It was happening on the main floor at the (theater)… and the music had started to play to get back in our seats. The people around us were saying, ‘Not here. Not here.’ Like it was OK to fight in the parking lot, you know, but it was not OK there when the music was playing, and they were about to go live.”
Tensions between the two rose as a result of the alleged poor treatment director Guillermo del Toro — a friend of Cameron’s — received from Weinstein while working on the sci-fi/horror flick, Mimic.
Cameron explained, “Harvey came up glad-handing me, talking about how great they were for the artist, and I just read him chapter and verse about how great I thought he was for the artist based on my friend’s experience, and that led to an altercation.”
Guillermo del Toro admitted during an interview at the London Film Festival last month that working with Weinstein was, indeed, a mistake: “I have got to tell you, two horrible things happened in the late nineties, my father was kidnapped and I worked with the Weinsteins.” ~Alexa Caruso
