Why Jennifer Lawrence cried during Mockingjay filming

Jennifer-Lawrence-creditWe all know Jennifer Lawrence is a talented actress, but did you know she could sing? The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1 director Francis Lawrence revealed to Radio Times that the actress will be performing the song “The Hanging Tree” in the film. Folk band The Lumineers wrote the melody for the song that appears in Suzanne Collins’ book Mockingjay, and specifically created it for Jennifer’s voice.

The last time we heard Katniss sing was the memorable moment in the first film, where she serenaded a dying Rue during the games. You’d think that would mean Jennifer would have no qualms with singing once again, but director Lawrence says it was her least favorite day of shooting.

“She was horrified to sing, she cried a little bit in the morning before she had to sing,” he revealed. “I was worried, I really thought we were going to have to do a bunch of pitch shifting, but she sounded great. What you hear in the movie is what she did on the day in the quarry.” ~Kelly Townsend
