John Travolta’s son dead at 16

John Travolta‘s son, Jett, 16, died yesterday while on vacation with his family in the Bahamas. Jett was the first born child of Travolta, 54, and his wife Kelly Preston, 46. Jett apparently suffered a seizure at their vacation home on Grand Bahama Island, said Michael Ossi, the family’s lawyer in a statement. The boy hit his head either on the bathtub or the toilet and was pronounced dead at Rand Memorial Hospital, though it’s not yet clear whether Jett fell as a result of a seizure or if he had a seizure after slipping or falling. According to police, Jett was found unconscious in the bathroom at around 10:00 a.m. by one of the Travolta’s two nannies. Jett’s parents, who are described as night owls by close friend Michael McDermott, were asleep at the time. An autopsy will be performed. Jett, who suffered from Kawasaki syndrome, had a history of seizures, according to Ossi. The couple also have an eight-year-old daughter, Ella Bleu.

Kawasaki syndrome? Actually, he was autistic but his parents didn’t want to acknowledge or admit that (publicly or privately), because it went against their ‘Scientology beliefs’.
They are Scientologists? I didn’t know that. I read that he had been tested for autism but that there were no definite results. What a shame, I can’t imagine losing a child. God help them get through this tragedy.

In response to Nancy claim that Jett was autistic: Actually, he wasn’t. He did suffer from Kawasaki disease, which is immeasurably different from autism in many ways. Kawasaki disease develops from a fever and causes skin rashes/peeling in early stages. Also, Kawasaki disease affects the organs in the body (mostly the heart) while autism affects the brain. Austism and Kawasaki disease have almost nothing in common except for the fact that scientists no very little about both diseases. So the fact that John and Kelly “didn’t want to acknowledge” his supposed autism had nothing to do with their beliefs in Scientology. It was because he wasn’t autistic. And because Kawasaki disease is primarily found in Japan and not the US his parents most likely tested him for autism long before testing him for Kawasaki disease.
My heart goes out to his parents. They deserve privacy and prayers.

Anyway, Joshua and anonymous, no one said they didn’t care because of the families beliefs, and when is saying they are scientologists an INsult? It isn’t, it was just part of the conversation, so take your holier-than-thou attitude and shove it. I am sorry that these people lost their child, I can’t imagine anything worse than that, but I certainly was NOT insulting them or saying I didn’t care.

In regards to what others said, yes we live in a free country, and as such we are all entitled to our own opinions and beliefs and same so with religion. It doesn’t matter what ailment the child had, the only thing that matters is that he died and the parents are mourning the loss of a child.
As far as them being scientologists, what does anyone’s beliefs have anything to do with the death of their child? Seriously, if you lost a child and the only thing people commented about you was that you were Christian or Catholic (or any other religion) you would be upset and rightly so. So Joshua is right in his comment, so what. So what was as to their religion. Offer your condolenses for their lose and move on. It doesn’t matter how much or how little someone knows about another’s religion, just that it has no place in the current discussion.
Nice try, Sylvia, but two of us were discussing Scientology, and Joshua and anonymous talked about those of us who were discussing Scientology as if we were discussing it in a derrogatory way. Yes, I agree, they were Scientologists, and that’s no big deal, it has nothing to do with what they are suffering right now, but it’s also no big deal for other people to discuss Scientology. I agree that all that matters is that a child died, but that doesn’t mean that is all that people can discuss. And “discuss” is the key word here, no one was “insulting” Scientology, we were simply “discussing” it. No one was pointing anything at you either, so what’s the problem?

So anyway, we were discussing the Travolta tragedy, the loss of their beloved son, which I do have great compassion for, John Travolta is one of my all time favorite actors, I think very highly of him. A comment on here mentioned his son’s condition, and the possibility of another condition being swept under the rug because of their Scientology beliefs. Thus, Scientology became part of the conversation on here. Thus, we WERE sticking to the topic, JA. And I do believe that it was you who very rudely told me and many others to stick to the topic, when you just couldn’t do it yourself. I also believe that YOU were the one who was not going to comment to me anymore, what happened to that promise, Jo?
For the record, I was staying on topic, did not say anything negative about Scientology as I believe that negative comments (like the one above this one) are completely unnecessary and out of place in an article such as this.

For the record though, Kawasaki disease also leads to inflammation of the blood vessels in kids….hmmm…I’m sure there are blood vessels going to and from the brain, wouldn’t you say? Anyways, if you click on my blue name for this comment, at least I have the New York Post to back up my claim and the Travolta’s did deny the claim through their lawyer but never took any legal action…hmmm…one would think that while the lawyer is already involved in a so-called false claim, that that same lawyer would persuade the Travolta’s to seek restitution in the form of a retraction in the New York Post!!

i feel very sorry for this family, and even if jett DID have autism, its not like its a big deal. its not like that is the REASON behind his death. and i know nothing about scientology, except that it makes tom cruise a psycho. lol. so i do disagree with it, and i completely understand that everyone has their own right and beliefs on scientology. i dont see why anyone should be saying rude things, or starting a fight over someone discussing their views on scientology, death, or anything. i could understand someone in scientology deciding they would jump in to defend their beliefs, but to bring up other religions? a religion is very often something YOU CHOOSE. so its not like they are bashing something that is in no way anyones fault here. people need to mind their own business when there is 2 ADULTS discussing anything on here.
oh and i also just read that page u sent us to, nancy. and i completely disagree with the article. my niece is only 12 and she is considered severely autistic EXCEPT that we made her learn how to speak. we refused to believe she was never going to speak, so we didnt let her get away with just making noises and pointing. she also has adhd and bipolar. she can read, she can play, she can do sports, she can do whatever she WANTS to do. people have a lot of misconceptions of autistic people. it is a disability, but they are capable of learning, and living like a normal human being. except that my nieces brain works on a 4 year old level, but she can read, she can write, she can understand some stuff, although not EVERYTHING. she doesnt understand things like, why if she kicks a table it wont hurt the table, but if she kicks you it does hurt. she cant tell the difference sometimes between inanimate objects and real ones. anyways, no point bashing autism, or acting like its something to be ashamed of if your family, or kids have autism. they are just people too, and it doesnt make you love them any less.
But, I never said I agree with the article….it just backs up my claim that’s all. I don’t know anyone with either autism or Kawasaki disease, so I don’t know the symptoms myself and never claimed to. I just feel that if their son did not have autism that they would have fought for a retraction in the New York Post and, if he did have autism, they should have at least acknowledged it no matter what their religion. I understand that there are alot of different religions out there but I personally, DO NOT agree with ANY religion that causes harm to other human beings. My opinion of THAT will never change! Nancy, you bring up some good points. If Jett did suffer from autism, why did the Travolta’s ask for a retraction from the NY Post? However, that NY Post article was built on comments given by a magazine editor who has interviewed John Travolta many times. This person isn’t claiming Jett had autism, just that he was disabled in some way. That disability could easily by Kawasaki disease OR autism. I agree that we will probably never know for sure and can only speculate. But it seems to me that the chances of Jett suffering from autism are just as great as the chances that he was suffering from Kawasaki disease. I sincerely believe that if Jett really did autism his parents would have done everything in their power to help their son. No parents would intentionally cause harm to their own children. I think we should give them the benefit of the doubt here.

ke – i said i dont know MUCH about it. i did read how katie wasnt allowed pain killers or to make any noise while giving birth, i also read how they wouldnt let her have her baby for the first 24 hrs of her life. i have read a lot of things, and i simply stated that i think its stupid, as i would think any religion that HARMS or DENYS people any type of help, including medical help/medicine. i dont see how im contradicting myself in anyway actually. and i was wrong when i said i know NOTHING about it except that it makes tom crazy, but in a way, i also wasnt. given the fact that everything ive ever heard about scientology was directly based on something tom cruise said or did, and things that have to do with katie holmes. so, i put it as simply as i could, instead of writing out all my reasonings for thinking it was a stupid religion.

Even the newslines are all talking about their link with Scientology, and the possibility that Jett had autism but their Scientology beliefs would not accept the diagnosis. So if the rest of the world can talk about it, why can’t we? That’s right, I’ve seen different news shows and whenever they talk about Jett’s death, Scientology and autism keep coming up in discussion. The Travoltas can go by whatever religion they choose, but we are all free to discuss it if WE choose. And mandee and anonymous are right, I highly doubt that John and Kelly are going to come on this site, and stress over what WE are saying!
