Johnny Depp helps girl in coma

By Alexandra Heilbron on March 28, 2008 | 23 Comments

Johnny DeppJohnny Depp is doing what he can to help a comatose British teenager. Sophie Wilkinson, 17, has been in a coma since a near fatal car crash last year. Her parents wrote to Depp, who is Sophie’s favorite actor. He agreed to record a voice message for Sophie to play to her. The actor, who lives in France, has also agreed to try and visit her at Southampton General Hospital once he finishes filming Dillinger in the States. Sophie’s father Andrew told mtv.co.uk: “We are looking for the key to wake her up, so we wrote to Johnny and he said he would do the recording in the voice of (his Pirates of the Caribbean character) Jack Sparrow.” After playing the tape for his daughter, Andrew said: “Sophie moved her right leg, which she has never done before. When we got home my wife and I were jumping for joy!”

LOL Poppa John! Bring me a pizza! I really hope Johnny Depp gets the chance to visit the girl, and I hope she wakes up while he is there. Hey, this could become a movie!!

  8. emc • March 29, 2008 @ 9:23 AM

now celebrities even have the power to bring comatose people back from the brink… next they’ll be curing cancer
but no in all serious this is actually really cool if it is true

  9. duh • March 29, 2008 @ 10:48 AM

    ugh, that’s lame

  10. tributegirl • March 29, 2008 @ 7:18 PM

I’d move more than my leg if he came to visit me! Woo Hoo!

For those who say who cares shame on you ….you can these people don’t have children speaking as a mother myself I’d do anything to help my child …even the outragous again shame you

  12. tributegirl • March 30, 2008 @ 1:27 PM

Yeah, I have to agree with you Julie, I’d do whatever I could for my child. And I also think the ones who are saying “who cares” are disgusting. He is helping someone, a total stranger in need, what is so bad about that? Nothing, in fact it’s awesome. He is showing that he is an incredible, caring human being, and the people who say “who cares” don’t hold a candle to him.

    wake her up johnny

  14. duh • March 30, 2008 @ 5:24 PM

it’s not the fact of “who cares” but promotion behind it… it would sound more to heart if they didnt mention Depp, or his “Pirates of the Carribean” character, it’s hidden commercialization.

  15. Nancy • March 31, 2008 @ 9:52 AM

Pick, pick!! “WHO CARES” about the hidden commercialization?? He is helping someone in dire need. Someone who could benefit greatly from something as simple as hearing his voice! Don’t be so damn heartless!

  16. Nancy • March 31, 2008 @ 9:55 AM

Oh, sorry. My comment was directed to….DUH!!!

  17. tributegirl • March 31, 2008 @ 4:59 PM

Actually I doubt he was even going to let this get public, probably the girls family are the ones who first contacted the media. I think this has nothing to do with “hidden commercialization” or anything. Johnny is a big star, but he’s different from the rest. I don’t think this has to do with boosting his image or anything.

  18. Nancy • March 31, 2008 @ 8:19 PM

Ya, Johnny always did seem kinda shy and stayed away from the limelight. That’s probably one of the reasons why he lives so far away.

  19. tributegirl • April 1, 2008 @ 11:05 AM

And probably one of the reasons why I like him so much. He’s not posing for the cameras or calling the papparazzi to tell them where he is going to be. He just tries to live his life like everyone else, work, home, family, helping where and when he can, etc.

Somebody call the Vatican. It’s time to nominate Johnny for sainthood.

  21. tributegirl • April 5, 2008 @ 4:04 PM

    I second that, Anon!

that lucky comatose girl man!! i’d get into a car wreck, hope for a coma just to have Johnny Depp try to wake me

  23. KartofflMuter • June 6, 2008 @ 9:36 AM

Depp has a career that stays out of the limelight. By the way-I’ll bet none of you know what limelight is. Look it up.You are a generally an ignorant bunch of “yahoos.” (also a famous term-look it up.) Educate yourselves. Till then-shut up. Depp is a parent. he responded to parents. Very simple. Whe you get older and the bad things come out from under the bed and happen to you, you’ll talk less and just hope for patience or a quick death.
Depp is one of the few good guys.
