In a recent interview with Digital Spy, the film’s star Chloe Grace Moretz surprised listeners with the announcement that she’s “done with the character” of Hit Girl, blaming low ticket sales for the franchise’s uncertain future. “I don’t think there will be any more movies,” said the actress. “You make these movies for the fanboys, but nowadays everyone seems to pirate them rather than watch them in the movie theater.” Kick-Ass was the second most pirated film of 2010, with nearly 11.5 million downloads on BitTorrent. Although its sequel didn’t crack the BitTorrent top ten in 2013, Moretz maintains that Kick-Ass 2 was one of the most pirated movies of the year, and according to the actress, “That doesn’t help us because we need box office figures. We need to prove to the distributors that we can make money from a third and a fourth movie – but because it didn’t do so well, we can’t make another one. If you want more than one movie, everyone has to go and see movies at the cinema. It’s all about the numbers in the theater.” Looks like we won’t be seeing a Kick-Ass 3 any time soon. ~Daniel Horowitz

Comedian Louis C.K. is the latest subject of accusations of sexual misconduct, which has resulted in his latest film, I Love You, Daddy, being pulled from release.
She makes a good point. But don’t most movies make more on DVD/digital sales these days than in the theatres anyway? So fanboys could save it by buying it now.
I’d add that’s how Family Guy ended up back on the air. DVD sales after it was cancelled.
For having seen both “Kick-Ass” movies, I would blame the poor quality of the sequel instead of claims of piracy for its lackluster box-office.
Say whatever you want about fanboys, it really has to be a pretty pathetic movie for them not to go spent $10 to see it on the big screen, and, well, “Kick-Ass 2” was definitely a pathetic picture.
Both films were crap compared to the comic. But you can say whatever you want. Best she get into a different franchise then though goodness knows who needs her…
I like you as an actress Chloe, but quit putting blame on piracy. Sorta like Jim Carrey, I walked out of the theatre when the way-to-much-violence built up to what I suppose was a rape scene. Didn’t wait to see if the bad guys really had what it took. Good stories with action sell tickets. Glad to see the sicko writers, etc didn’t win out on this one.
