Kiefer Sutherland humiliated on Letterman show

By Alexandra Heilbron on January 15, 2010 | 35 Comments

Kiefer Sutherland, star of the hit series 24, was wearing a green print dress when he showed up for an interview on The Late Show With David Letterman this week.

Amused but surprised, Letterman asked the star, “You’re doing the remake of Beverly Hillbillies? You’re [playing] Granny? What’s happening here?” Kiefer replied, “Far worse than that.” He went on to explain that he’d lost a bet with a friend. “I was so sure New England was going to win that I told a guy who used to be my friend that if they lost I would wear a dress on Letterman,” he said. “The guy I made the bet with, this is the end of our friendship, the end of the debt that I had for the bet. This is it.”

Letterman offered Kiefer $1,000 to ride the subway in his dress, but the actor replied, “Riding the subway would be easier than what I am going through right now. This might be the most humiliating moment of my life, and I’ve had a couple to choose from!” ~Alexandra Heilbron

He’s such a character and a great sport. As far as the dress goes, he was probably just concerned with how much of his body he could cover. God Bless our Canadian celebraties – there are no flies on them. Laura

I hate when they post somewhat misleading headlines just to get you to click on it. Get it all sounding juicy and then you find out that it’s not.

I was hoping that, maybe…just maybe… Letterman would actually humiliate Kiefer Sutherland, and then we would have something to watch.

  9. Amy • January 15, 2010 @ 1:30 PM

Too funny 🙂 Great Canadian – we keep our bets despite national humiliation and forever kept on youtube lol

  10. Terry • January 15, 2010 @ 2:35 PM

I wish he would have said that he was going to sign the dress and put it on EBay and given the money to charity.

    Class guy though.

I have always loved the Sutherland’s, I never realized that Keifer could be as goofy as his father.I BLESS ALL actor,s and the dedication that they have in portraying LIFE ( fact or fiction) so that others can see it in a different way. I’m sure That God greets every one of them that come his way. Just remember Keifer. Don’t sweat the small stuff.

Here is the proof that if you are making a bet, beware what you agree to insofar as the consequence of a lost bet……what an awesome person to follow through on his debt.

  24. Richard • January 16, 2010 @ 3:38 PM

Did he say the bet was with his friend Dave Anderychuck who played in the National Hockey League?

    Dear Jo and demigod,

Sorry to hear about Mandee, knew she was having the stomach problems etc, and am glad she was able to still come online, however, my Dr. still does not know what is causing my new problems and ALSO cannot sit at the computer anymore like I used to because my back is worse, so I cannot sit!! I’ve missed corresponding with everyone, believe me, but when you are bedbound because of your health there is nothing you can do about it!! Just wanted to drop you guys a line to tell you that I miss you all and to extend belated Christmas and New Years wishes to you!! Don’t know when I’ll get the chance to post again, but I’ll try to every once in awhile and please tell Mandee that I was asking about her (if you don’t mind?) I guess to tell Nancy would be out of the question for you 2 right, LOL? Well, hopefully she MIGHT read this as well!!

Also glad to know that you read “The Old Man and the Sea” demigod!! Did you like it?

Jo, how is your hand doing? I hope it is almost back to being 100% but I guess that is probably too much wishing, right, LOL??!! DId you go see “Daughtry” yet? If so, was he good? How were your seats?

    Take care you guys!!

    Your friend always,
    April

  30. Jo-Anne • January 19, 2010 @ 1:33 AM

Hello there April! Again, I am so sorry to hear you haven’t been well. I do hope thngs look up for you soon. It must be even more difficult when you are not sure what is at the root of your health issues. You take care!

Thanks for asking, my hand healed even better than my surgeon expected, and I am extremely pleased with the results. So, now on to hand number two soon!

I ended up missing out on Daughtry (illness), my seats were amazing and I couldn’t even give it away!!!! However, I go to Guns N Roses soon and also Colin James, both shows really good seats. And I managed excellent seats for Bon Jovi this summer too…

hope you can look forward yourself to better health this year and take care of yourself…

  31. Kyle Clark • January 19, 2010 @ 7:46 AM

Whatever, great advertising for his career. No one would have given a dam if he just appeared on Letterman. Now he gets all this extra press. But very smart of him.

  32. Nancy • January 19, 2010 @ 10:27 AM

Hahaha, well I’m BEYOND ecstatic…I can’t speak for Tributegirl though.

    (WHOO HOO!!!) LOL.

Oh, hi April! Sorry to hear you’ve been practically bedridden. That would suck for sure. Hopefully your Dr. can find out what is wrong with your other sickness. Unfortunately, we all know that bad back problems NEVER go away and make for a very painful life. I feel for ya. I really do. Chronic pain is no laughing matter and it’s no way for someone to have to spend their life. I hope you feel somewhat better soon.

  33. tributegirl • January 19, 2010 @ 4:07 PM

April, I’m really sorry to hear about your health problems, I’m hoping you got a couple different opinions on what is going on? And Nancy is right, very often back problems, especially lower back, are for life, they often can’t find the reason for lower back pain. Good luck.

  34. Austin • January 20, 2010 @ 2:18 PM

ahhhh. The usual stupidity of the actors strike again to gain as much publicity thorough stunts like this. Why would u make a stupid bet in the beginning?
Answer A) My publicist said that This will gain me more attention.

    B) Letterman was in on it like the Borat on Eminem, which they denied it to the end.

    C) Just plain stupidity, in going with the bet/debt. Hey it rhymes. LOL

  35. demigod • January 20, 2010 @ 3:58 PM

April, read the synopsis..sounds good 🙂 I’m in the middle of a few other books pertaining to 2012, ufo/crop circle phenomenon, planet x, the Sumerians (and other ancient civilizations). All fascinating.
    Take care.
