La La Land is dazzling its way to more awards attention in the days leading up to the announcement of the coveted Oscar nominations.
Damien Chazelle‘s critically-acclaimed musical with Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone was crowned Film of the Year at the 37th Critics’ Circle Film Awards in London last night (Sunday, Jan. 22).
Surprisingly, however, that was the only award the film received.
The Director of the Year trophy went to Hungarian László Nemes for his Oscar-winning drama Son of Saul.
In the acting categories, it was Moonlight that shone brightest. Naomie Harris nabbed the Supporting Actress of the Year award while her co-star Mahershala Ali shared the Supporting Actor of the Year honor with Tom Bennett for Love & Friendship.
Casey Affleck continued his march toward what many are expecting is a definite Best Actor Oscar when he snagged the Actor of the Year prize for Manchester by the Sea. On the women’s side, it was Golden Globe winner Isabelle Huppert who walked away with the victory.
As an interesting side note, the French icon didn’t win for her performance in Elle — which is the role she’s been recognized with most frequently this awards season — but instead for Mia Hansen Løve’s Things to Come.
Isabelle was also the recipient of the prestigious Dilys Powell Award for Excellence in Film.

The nominees for the 81st Golden Globe Awards were announced today. In the film categories, Barbie led with nine nominations, Oppenheimer was next with eight.
I can’t understand this movie’s appeal. It was okay, not great and the ending was so bad it killed any enjoyment I had from watching it.
