Lady Gaga to launch her own social network

By Tribute on February 9, 2012 | 12 Comments

Lady Gaga is by far the reigning queen of social media — she has more Twitter followers than anyone else with close to 19 million; she was the first artist to hit 1 billion views on YouTube; and she’s garnered over 47.5 million “Likes” on Facebook. She’s also a proud supporter of Google, having recently appeared in a commercial for Google Chrome plus a one-on-one sit-down session called Google Goes Gaga to promote Google Moderator. She’s now taking it one step further. In an attempt to bring her fans, or her “Little Monsters” as she calls them, closer together, Gaga will be launching her own social networking site Littlemonsters.com. Users will be able to create and share video and photo posts while also being able to promote content from other places — in other words, Little Monsters will be able to share and connect around everything Gaga.

The site, which is still in the closed beta phase till later this year, was developed by Backplane, a small start-up dedicated to online community-building. It seems like an ideal partnership for the pop singer, who is already an investor in the company. Her manager, Troy Carter, also happens to be one of its four founding members.

I would totally sign up for this just to see what kind of crazy things people post!

That is the most conceited idea I’ve ever heard of. Seriously Lady Gaga is a Horrible person in my opinion, Probably one of the worse there is in the entertainment industry. I wish she would just go away already.

Yea, what a total stuck up bit*h. An official dedicated website for fans of hers to connect with each other. Just horrible, horriblez I says. *rolls eyes*

It’s totally narcissistic, but at the same time you have to give her credit for capitalizing on her success, and monetizing her brand without looking too much like a sell out.

    Some egos know no bounds.

yeah, but think of all the money she’ll make. If you’re going to sell-out, sell-out for mega-big bucks.

This is freakin genius!!! I wish I was famous and had my own cult of followers so I could start a webstie and take more of their money!

It’s interesting that the article states “launching her own social networking site”, perhaps like youtube, facebook, twitter etc… I fail to see how some of us have come to the conclusion that she will be taking money from her fans.

@TheTruth: do you really think she’s doing this JUST to make her fans happy? There’s obviously something for her to gain financially out of it

@Nobody Important you have obviously failed at reading. But are excellent at trolling. The quote you’ve provided states clearly that GaGa has partnered up with Backplane and is an investor for their new venture. Please show me where it states that they will be charging the fans who sign up to the social media site anything.

@Someone, NO I do not think that, nor did I state that anywhere to give that impression. I simply pointed out how people jumped to the conclusion that the fans would be somehow ripped off or suckered into giving away their cash, when it clearly says nothing of that in the article. And yes, money makes the world go round. She will probably get lots of money through advertising and endorsement deals. There is a possibility of sales through the website, and or subscriptions to events, apps, and possibly even membership. But again, it says nothing about any of that in the article and everything is just speculation on our behalf.
