Leonardo DiCaprio in tragic suicide scandal

By Alexandra Heilbron on June 26, 2014 | 25 Comments

A man shot himself to death at a gun range in California last Sunday after he saw photos of his wife partying and getting cozy with The Wolf of Wall Street star Leonardo DiCaprio last month in Cannes. In one of the pics, the woman – model Katie Cleary – is seen dancing with Leonardo and in another, he appears to be kissing her on the cheek. There were also photos of her walking down a street in Cannes with Entourage star Adrian Grenier. Her husband, Andrew Stern, had a history of depression and following his death, police determined from interviewing his close friends and family that he had been suffering severe depression due to marital problems. Katie filed for divorce in April and a few days later, Andrew went to a gun range to commit suicide but appeared so unstable that employees turned him away. His mother called police, who took him to a hospital for mental observation. Unfortunately, last weekend he was allowed back into the gun range and this time, succeeded in shooting himself in the head. Prior to meeting Katie, Andrew appeared on the reality show The Millionaire Matchmaker, where he was described as “quiet and shy” and an “introvert.”

It’s her fault, not Leo’s. He probably didn’t even know she was married.

  2. Mack • June 26, 2014 @ 10:27 AM

Well, that was kind of a false Leader – Leo really wasn’t involved in any kind of “Suicide Scandal” come on…

  3. Bob • June 26, 2014 @ 10:36 AM

This sad incidence has nothing to do with Leonardo. This only involves Kathie. The extension of her involvement in this is not clear to us but one truth is known….this man suffered from Severe Depression.

This illness should not be taken lightly since thousands of people suffer with Depression. What is sad is that the media, in order to get attention, is throwing blame around and not respecting what this man’s family is living through at this moment by not respecting their privacy.
My deepest condolences to his family for their lose.

He was depressed and couldn’t handle his life. It wasn’t anybody’s fault. What a stupid headlne.

  5. Pam • June 26, 2014 @ 11:08 AM

It starts by saying he shot himself to death at the gun range and ends by saying the gun range turned him away and his mother called the police who took him to a mental hospital for observation. Is he alive or dead? Do I mourn or hope for his recovery?

  6. Emma • June 26, 2014 @ 11:19 AM

He shot himself to death at a gun range…but the employees turned him away from the gun range? Poor wording.

  7. Maria • June 26, 2014 @ 11:29 AM

Um….so Leo had nothing to do with this, just a headline to get us to read the article, nice.

  8. Melissa A • June 26, 2014 @ 11:45 AM

This has nothing to do with Leo. HATE this headline

  9. Kris • June 26, 2014 @ 11:50 AM

Once again, a deceptive headline. Clearly an un-well man who fell over the edge. Why do I continue coming to this site????

Checking other sources, he did die. However, the only person responsible was himself. No one else drove him to suicide. No one “drives” anyone to suicide. It is a conscious choice. Not necessarily a clear and coherent choice. But a choice nevertheless. Having attempted myself, I know this for a fact.

If you read carefully it says, at the end of the article, that IN APRIL she filed for divorce and 8 days later he went to the gun range to commit suicide but was turned away. The event happened in April. At the beginning of the article it says that “on Sunday”, which would have been June 22, he attended at the gun range and committed suicide. Very sad.

The man who shot himself his a dumbass. First he should have talked with his wife. Maybe it was as bad, maybe not. Human imagination is used plenty in horror movies, if you see the monster it’s not that bad. In his case I am convince he imagine his wife doing plenty of things with Leo or others. Killing himself because he was affraid to be hurt or because he imagine what happened without really knowing. Nahhh, get a divorce if you need to end something, end the wedding not your life. If your wife work as a model, it’s expected that she will attract attention from more than one men.

He was turned away in APRIL. He shot himself there last Sunday. So, yes he’s dead. No, it isn’t anybody’s fault. He made his choice.

  15. Janine • June 26, 2014 @ 3:03 PM

If any of you idiots could read, you can see he died from this article. You didn’t have to go anywhere else for the info. Try reading the whole thing the next time before commenting, y’all look like idiots. Looks like the only ones who actually can read are Holly and Vic.

  16. Kris • June 26, 2014 @ 3:05 PM

    MightyMad….maybe the guy was a jerk ….abusive …a drunk et…she filed for divorce…separated…all’s fair.

  17. Rob • June 26, 2014 @ 3:08 PM

Pam and Emma, the first line says he shot himself to death. What about that is unclear? Why are you asking if he’s alive or dead? Read the entire article. He tried going to the range in April after his skanky wife filed for divorce. He was turned away. Spent time in a mental hospital at his mother’s request. Got out. Went back to the gun range. This time he succeeded (meaning, he died. He’s dead. He killed himself). Is that spelled out clearly enough for you?

This is Bullshit. Leo is pictured talking to someone in a nightclub – speaking into her ear because of the loud music. Then, tragically, her ex commits suicide because of steroid abuse and business worries. But they try to tie it to Leo. thats sick.

  19. Ashley • June 26, 2014 @ 3:18 PM

It doesn’t really matter what we think. The husband saw photos of her with other men and went off the deep end. Leo didn’t know but the wife (Katie) knew he (Andrew) was unstable and that those photos would be public just because of who she was with.

  20. Jo • June 26, 2014 @ 4:06 PM

Obviously nothing here should be attributed to Leo. Very sad depression overtook this man’s thoughts and ended like this. It’s very unfortunate for the family….

  21. Pam and Emma, really? • June 26, 2014 @ 6:41 PM

Pam and Emma, typical low attention span retards, can’t even follow along for a few hundred words. And they wonder why their jobs at 7-11 are tough (my apologies to their co-workers, it’s really just Pam and Emma who are idiots).

  22. Mary Jo • June 27, 2014 @ 7:44 AM

Very sad, but she obviously has issues, as well as he did. Insecurity on his part, mixed with depression, very bad and lethal combination. She sounds like a bit of a “tart” as we Canadians would say. I am being a lady, and would have dropped the “s” or “h” word, after a glass of wine. It’s a tragedy and not being able to talk through problems, before they turn into a “situation”. Suicide is a coward’s way out, and hurts everyone left behind, which is what he was hoping to accomplish. Condolences to family and having seen this in my personal life, makes no sense, just leaves everyone with a heavy heart, asking “why?”

  23. Ian • June 27, 2014 @ 8:53 AM

Very misleading headline about a tragic story. I hope Leonardo’s people take you to task for implying that he was directly involved somehow, when it’s quite obvious he wasn’t.
The only thing that might redeem this story is if it raises awareness and hopefully intervention for other folks (famous, rich or not) who are struggling with similar issues.

  24. Di • June 27, 2014 @ 12:06 PM

“Scandal” is that misceiving headline and what the press are trying to do with this story only because there was a celebrity who was seen talking to the guy’s wife the other day. Shameful!

  25. Di • June 27, 2014 @ 12:16 PM

    * “misceiving” – a new word I’ve just invented by accident. A combination between “misleading” and “decieving”.
