Lorde calls New Zealand media ‘lecherous’

Kiwi singer/songwriter Lorde, 17, was visibly annoyed when she arrived at Auckland airport on Wednesday morning after a 12-hour flight from Los Angeles, where she’d just won two Grammy Awards. Although her fans were polite, greeting her with homemade banners and snapping a few photos of her, she tried to hide her face when bombarded by pushy media photographers trying to get the best shots. She struck out at them in a serious of tweets that were later deleted, writing, “I know that success comes with a price tag.” That was followed by: “It just sucks when you see that in your tiny home country where you previously felt safe.”

She then wrote: “There is a difference between attn from fans and the constant, often lecherous gaze that i’m subjected to in this industry.” However, she concluded with “I’m beginning to get used to my image as a public commodity and the fact that I’m getting used to it frightens me.” At any rate, Lorde, whose real name is Ella Yelich-O’Connor, told the New Zealand media that winning Grammys didn’t really faze her, saying “I was more freaking out when I won my New Zealand music awards to be honest. Like, it’s super cool but it becomes a normal thing after a while I guess.”

Well Gus, you need your eyes tested. The girl is strikingly gorgeous. Hate to think what you call good looking.

She needs to grow into her image. One can witness her discomfort when she suffers through an interview. Some attention to moderating her statements about others might prove helpful. She is forgiven while she is young but soon the press will tire of this and see her discomfort as arrogance. How to work with the public and media training might put her into a more confidant comfort zone.

Howdy just wanted to give you a quick heads up. The words in your post seem to be running off the screen in Safari. I’m not sure if this is a format issue or something to do with internet browser compatibility but I figured I’d post to let you know. The design look great though! Hope you get the issue fixed soon. Many thanks
