Madonna’s Super Bowl halftime show angers parents group

By Tribute on February 6, 2012 | 15 Comments

Madonna promised there would be no wardrobe malfunctions at her halftime performance during last night’s Super Bowl — we all remember Janet Jackson’s famous wardrobe slip-up in 2004. There may not have been any bare body parts revealed but the act still managed to stir up a little controversy thanks to rapper M.I.A., who gave the audience the finger after joining Madonna and guest star Nicki Minaj for their performance of Madonna’s latest single, “Give Me All Your Luvin.” NBC wasn’t able to censor it in time and M.I.A.’s middle finger was broadcast to the world, ticking off the Parents Television Council. “It is unfortunate that a spectacular sporting event was overshadowed once again by broadcasting the selfish acts of a desperate performer,” wrote PTC’s presdient, Tim Winter.

Despite the obscene gesture, Madonna and her famous friends put on an entertaining show. The pop queen, led on stage by a band of Roman soldiers, opened with some of her classic hits, including a mash-up of “Music” with LMFAO’s “Party Rock Anthem” and “Sexy and I know It.” She also welcomed Cee Lo Green on stage for a choir-backed rendition of her 1989 hit, “Like a Prayer.” If you missed last night’s show, check out the video below for the full performance. How about “M.I.A.’s action during Super Bowl half-time show angers parent group”. Surely Madonna cannot be held accountable for the action of another sentient being.

Personally, I’d never heard of M.I.A. before this ‘incident’, which I didn’t even notice. It seems there are individuals and groups who actively search out reasons to be offended. Gives ’em purpose, I suppose.

Well said Bob. I too watched the performance and did not notice the gesture. Loved the show…Madonna nailed it.

I didn’t like it at all. There’s something uncomfortable about seeing a 50+ woman acting like that on stage. Not at all classy.

  4. TheTruth • February 6, 2012 @ 12:30 PM

She might be 50+, but her parts are brand spanking new.

I thought she rocked. What does her age have to do with it? Nobody says that about Mick Jagger….I’m just sayin.

The halftime show was boring she lip synced basically the whole show. Madonna was about to put me to sleep. The MIA flipping the bird caught me off guard I heard it on news and I looked it up on Youtube to actually see it for myself.

Nicki Minaj, LMAFO and Cee-lo I never understood why they were apart of the show sang one or couple of lines and came off the stage. For some odd reason I just wanted Madonna to trip coming off that chair.

I thought Madge rocked and she is not the one who flipped the bird, that other gurl did and why should Madge be held accountable for her actions?
I liked the songs she sang and she was in great shape and even if she lip synced, grain of Na

    THe show was great

oh grow up parents. Your stupid kids are sexting, screwing, drinking, smoking and posting too much of their personal information on social sites while you’re all in a tizzy over someone flipping a bird during a halftime show. Grow up!!

And for the record, M.I.A’s a damn good artist, and I think Madonna did a damn good job.

Parents Television Council can go suck it! Over pretentious A-holes, get a life!

I don’t know anyone who noticed. Yep people actively look for trouble and hide behind the guise that it should have been sensored better and how dare their childred see such horror of a middle finger. Meanwhile their kids are smoking pot and swearing up a storm…yes one rapper contributed to that horror.

The Parents Television Council is just a b****y little group who go in a tizzy over a quick middle finger. I didnt notice it. Not alot of people did. So why should they go all Tyra on us? And they protest how vulgar music is? All the violent, sexual, racist, homophobic, and vulgar language in songs are bad, but you cant hide kids from the world

Who’s more annoying? PTC or PETA?

  13. Stacey • February 7, 2012 @ 12:17 PM

There was no need for M.I.A to show the finger. It may not be a huge deal but it’s the principle behind it. Did she even issue an apology or anything?

  14. Olive • February 7, 2012 @ 10:41 PM

Mitch, they are both equally annoying as hell

  15. Bug • February 8, 2012 @ 8:38 AM

Who the hell is M.I.A? Does anyone really care…..no.
