Actor Mark Wahlberg may be an Oscar nominee, but up until recently he couldn’t call himself a high school graduate. After dropping out in ninth grade due to a troubled childhood, the actor never went back to school. Using his kids as his motivation, Mark decided to complete online courses to ensure he received his diploma. “I didn’t want the kids saying, ‘You didn’t do it, so why do I need it?’ They are all wanting to do things in their future that require an education,” he told People magazine. Mark studied when traveling for work, at home, and even on set of his movie 2 Guns. He hired a tutor to help him complete his work, but kept it a secret from co-stars such as Denzel Washington until he was sure he could complete his studies. After a year of hard work, Mark received his diploma this summer. Now that he has his high school diploma, Mark revealed he has even bigger goals, such as going to the University of Southern California to study film. ~ Brie Davis
