Mark Wahlberg to finish high school

By Tribute on June 14, 2012 | 13 Comments

Looks like the ex-underwear model, rapper, and actor is about to become a student. Boogie Nights star Mark Wahlberg dropped out of high school in the ninth grade after getting arrested but now he’s finally gearing up to get his high school diploma. The actor revealed the announcement Monday night on the Late Show with David Letterman. He said, “It’s an actual diploma, I’ve got to take up all the courses that I missed and I’m a little nervous.” The actor recently enrolled in a New Orleans-based online education program. Wahlberg says he hopes to “just blast through it, hopefully do it within six to eight months,” as he has some downtime from filming at the moment. The 41-year-old Ted actor is currently an ambassador for Taco Bell’s Graduate to Go program, and heading back to school definitely shows the value he places on education. ~Stacy Raivich

Good for him. You are never too old to go back to High School. The year I graduated from High School, my own father went for his GED and we graduated together. It was a proud moment for both of us.

Truly surprising/shocking that he had been arrested and only had grade 9! With the fame and fortune he’s amassed, beyond what most people will ever see, he certainly didn’t HAVE to go back to high school, but is doing it to be a good example for kids.
    This guy is no dummy!

I to did not finish high school and succeeded in life but Mark all the more power to you for setting an example for the kids of today to finish school. I am retired now with my little jewelry business and love your movies. I salute your initiative and applaud anyone in Hollywood who sets an example for kids. I have three grandchildren who are watching the stars and you are definately a good example of someone who has worked hard and continues to do so in a positive manner. Way to go. I also watch brother Donnie every week to. Keep up the good work!

Good for you Missy. It takes a lot of courage to go back and finish school at his age.Good for him and I wish him nothing but the best.People are so judgemental of other people they don’t even know. That’s really sad and not true once a dropout always a dropout. He is making sure of that.Good luck to him and he is an inspiration to the younger generation including his own children.
