mary_walshCanadian comedienne Mary Walsh was announced as the 2009 recipient of the Dave Broadfoot Award for Comic Genius at the Canadian Comedy Awards last weekend in St. John, New Brunswick. Previous winners include Mike McDonald and Russell Peters. Walsh, who has starred in the comedy TV series Codco and This Hour Has 22 Minutes, is currently shooting a new sitcom for Canwest. Her most recent film, Crackie, screened at TIFF and she’s just wrapped another film, The Love Child, with Donald Sutherland and his son, Rossif Sutherland. “I couldn’t have been more surprised, or thrilled, to win this award. Under the rouse of presenting the award to someone else (why not me I wondered) I was floored, and literally fell to the floor, when Don and Roger said my name. I really couldn’t be more surprised, or thrilled, or proud!” Walsh exclaimed after winning.
