Matt Damon feels lucky to have fallen in love with a "civilian." The
Elysium actor married former bartender Luciana Barroso – with whom he raises four daughters – seven years ago and Matt admits he's relieved he didn't fall for a fellow celebrity like his close friend Brad Pitt did with Angelina Jolie. He told the August issue of
Esquire: "I got lucky. I fell in love with a civilian. Not an actress and not a famous actress at that. Because then the attention doesn't double – it grows exponentially. I look at Brad – and I have for years – and when I'm with him I see the intensity of that other side of it. And the paparazzi and the insane level of aggression they have and their willingness to break the law and invade his space. I wonder about that trade. I remember telling him that I walk my kids to school, and
his face just fell. He was very kind, but he was like, 'You b*****d.' Because he should be able to do that, too. And he can't."
Matt, 42, also admitted he manages to avoid the paparazzi because he isn't very interesting. He explained: "If I'm not jumping up and down on a bar, or lighting something on fire, or cheating on my wife, there's not really any story to tell. They can try to stake me out, but they're always going to get the same story – middle-aged married guy with four kids."

Opening in theaters this weekend is the action-thriller Bullet Train starring Brad Pitt, Jo Koy’s comedic Easter Sunday, and I Love My Dad with Patton Oswalt.
Now there’s a nicely grounded guy.
The way the article refers to a celebrity vs just another “civilian” it makes it seem like celebs are some higher being, distinguished from regular societies people with a higher ranking and purpose. I don’t feel this is true.
I like his regular life. I get what he means ‘civilian’..I see the paparazzi feeding the celeb frenzi by breaking laws and leads to major incidences and it sickens me. This is the only site I go on to review movies and comment. Otherwise I don’t buy mags or watch ET Canada and those sort of shows so I don’t help feed into the hype over these people. They want a regular life I want them to have one like me. Sadly we term some of them ‘Hollywood Royalty’ so that doesn’t help.
