Matthew Fox detained by police for alleged assault on woman

Lost star Matthew Fox was detained by police in Cleveland, Ohio on Saturday night after allegedly assaulting a woman, according to TMZ, who broke the news. The incident occurred when Fox allegedly tried to get on a party bus that was parked outside a bar, even though he wasn’t one of the guests. When the female bus driver tried to block the actor from boarding the bus, he allegedly punched her in the breast and stomach area. She later told police she hit him back in the mouth, and believed she’d broken her hand in the incident. Fox was handcuffed by an off-duty police officer who happened to be at the scene and was later detained by Cleveland police, although he did not wind up being arrested. He was picked up by a friend in a taxi and escorted to his hotel.

    He should have been arrested.I bet he would have been if he wasn’t a star.

    Wow that’s very gentlemen of him to punch a woman. I mean the bus driver was only doing her job. I don’t get why some celebs think they are entitled to get a free ride. BTW this pic makes him look crazy somewhat.

    For anonymous2, it looks like he was arrested, but not charged. There is a substantial difference between the two. The victim may not have wanted to proceed with the charge and pursue him civilly (money, money) OR the police could be taking the case to prosecutors for advice. Time will tell. In all that, Matt sounds like a bit of a jerk…too much wobbly juice!

    Look at everyone again jumping on the “Some random woman accused a celeb of doing something so it must be true bandwagon”. Lets be honest here if he did hit her on a busy bus then there would have been a bunch of witnesses. This would have been a freakin’ slam dunk in court…so why no police arrest followed by charges? Even if the woman didn’t want to press charges then the police can. Especially with that many witnesses.

    @Linda
    I don’t think some bus driver would want to take someone to court after she attacked back (assuming the story above is telling the truth). He could just as easily counter sue for the exact same amount perhaps even more given the fact that when he is injured he cannot work and his salary per film/ per appearance would be significantly higher than the bus drivers salary.

    I for one would like to wait and see what evidence is brought forward. Then and only then will I side with Matt or against. For now at least lets hope he leaves the cap on the next bottle he sees…

    Lifeless,

    Unless the assault is domestic in nature, the police will not lay charges unless directed by the victim. With regards to the woman striking back, all persons are allowed to defend themselves in law. You are correct in your assessment with respect to witnesses however. Media stories are never a good place to formulate judgment. That is why we have courts and a judge to consider evidence.

    @Germain Someone was using my name too once, but who knows it might be their Real name.

    I doubt they would have said that if it was. With a name like Rita, it’s a strong possibility but Germain is not as common.
