Michael J. Fox will be one of 14 Canadians named as an Officer to the Order of Canada during a ceremony today at Governor General David Johnston’s residence — Rideau Hall in Ottawa. The distinction recognizes service to Canada or humanity at large. Fox, who was born in Edmonton and raised in British Columbia, was diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease in 1991 and has worked tirelessly to support others with the disease, as well as to find a cure, setting up The Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s research. Although the disease limits him physically, he continues to make television appearances.
