Miracles from Heaven Blu-ray review

Miracles from Heaven is a faith-based film that doesn’t preach. Instead, it takes its time to unravel the struggles of one family whose faith is tested — a relatable struggle that will resonate with audiences.

Based on a true story, the film revolves around the lives of Christy (Jennifer Garner) and Kevin Beam (Martin Henderson), whose 10-year-old daughter Annabel (Kylie Rogers) starts throwing up in the middle of the night. This goes on for weeks and at first, the doctors diagnose it as lactose intolerance. When the intense vomiting continues, Christy’s motherly instincts kick in and she demands further tests.

The family is finally told that Anna suffers from an incurable intestine disorder that will eventually kill her. A devout Christian, Christy can’t imagine why her family is suffering with this pain. Her faith is tested and she stops going to church, but with unwavering determination, she calls the best doctors in the city to continue to have her daughter tested.

The family’s tough times bring close friends together and even invites strangers into their lives. As the film moves along, watching Christy and her family struggle through the difficult times will resonate with audiences. Christy’s strength and determination is inspiring.

If the movie doesn’t appeal to you on a spiritual level, you will at least be left with admiration for the human spirit. And if you don’t believe in miracles, this movie will have you questioning fate and destiny.

Being a believer, I was happy the movie wasn’t too preachy. It appeals to believers and non-believers alike and you will be left in awe at how some things are just unexplained, no matter what science says.

Jennifer Garner channels a mother with unwavering faith, love, compassion and determination — who can’t stand to see her child in danger and will do everything in her power to change it. Jennifer admirably slipped into her role and created a universal character mothers will relate to. As Annabel, Kylie Rogers gets our sympathy right off the bat and for her part, she was a perfect choice for the role.

Overall, I would say I liked Miracles from Heaven. It exceeded my expectations and left me in awe. If you don’t believe in miracles, this true story memoir might just change your mind, or at least leave you with some food for thought.
