Mission: Impossible – Fallout at the International Spy Museum

We were invited to the International Spy Museum in Washington, D.C. for a tour and to interview not only some of the stars of Mission: Impossible – Fallout, but also some former CIA agents!

The tour of the museum was conducted by Executive Director/former CIA field agent (i.e., spy) Chris Costa, who told us about some of his experiences, as well as those of his fellow spies. The tour itself was fascinating, allowing us the opportunity to study a wide array of spy gadgets and learn about spies through the years, including celebrities who worked on spy missions.

There were also videos of spies talking about their most incredible missions and rooms set up to look exactly like spots around the world in which missions went down. There’s even a Khandar street, which is used to take visitors on a spy mission in which they wind up hiding in a dark tunnel, viewing surveillance videos and interrogating a suspect. There was also a section devoted to James Bond movies, complete with videos and a large assortment of costumes and props from various films.

Although the tour was an hour, it seemed much shorter — there was so much to look at. If you find yourself in Washington, D.C., make sure to schedule at least three hours at the museum so you can watch all the videos and see all the displays, including ones in which you view a photo, then press buttons to see where drops were made, where items were hidden and what certain marks on a pole or mailbox might have meant.

After the tour I had the chance to talk to actor Kristoffer Joner, who played the role of Nils Debruuk in the hospital scene (if you haven’t seen it, it will blow your mind) and Wolf Blitzer, who played himself in the same scene, but with a twist. They both turned in incredible performances and were as charming in person as you would imagine. After that, Spy Museum Founding Executive Director/former CIA field agent Peter Earnest and former Central Intelligence Agency Chief of Disguise Joanna Mendez revealed fascinating facts about what it takes to be a spy and gave their opinion on spy movies, including Mission: Impossible – Fallout. Click here to watch the interviews.
