Mike Myers has revealed Shrek was originally Canadian. The actor – who provides the voice of the ogre – experimented with several different voices before he finally settled on the animated green hero’s trademark Scottish tones. He said: “Shrek’s voice was originally Canadian because that’s where I’m from. Then it was based on the voice of a character I did, Lothar of the Hill People. But, I would do it for 10 minutes and couldn’t talk for three days. It took too much out of me. I have some Scottish blood. Scottish people are the salt of the earth. They are also capable of being very angry, but then very loving. I thought that would be perfect for an ogre.” The 47-year-old comedian went on to add that he has some similarities with his Shrek alter-ego. He explained: “Insecurity. I’m secure enough to admit I’m quite insecure. Growing up in Canada you feel like you walk amongst Americans, but you are slightly different. I think ogres feel slightly alienated.”

Netflix has a great assortment of new movies and TV shows for viewers this May, including new episodes from the fourth season of Stranger Things and much more.
I guess that’s why so many Canadians like to bash America? Because compared to Americans, they feel insecure?
“I’m secure enough to admit I’m quite insecure”
Uhhhhhhh… I wouldn’t base Canadian culture/mentality based on Myers.
I sure don’t feel insecure with free healthcare. No wonder we live longer, happier, and respect multiculturalism.
We have this saying whenever we play an American team over the Summer, “Pardon me? I couldn’t hear you over my health care benefits.” Haha. Good laugh on both sides.
Also, in Iron Man 2, weapon’s contractor Hammond said, “You know, I’d love to leave my doors unlocked at night, but this ain’t Canada.” EPIC plug.
Canada is an Amazing country, it is one of the youngest countries and yet its more advanced than the other closed minded countries… Maybe you Americans should pick up a book sometimes, we know more about your country than you know ours…
Please, I’m not insecure, Mike Myers go away.
