New Carrie Bradshaw revealed for Sex and the City

After months of searching, the CW network has finally revealed who they’ve cast as young Carrie Bradshaw in the pilot for their new Sex and the City prequel series, The Carrie Diaries, based on the book of the same name by author Candace Bushnell. A studio rep has confirmed that AnnaSophia Robb will play the younger version of Sarah Jessica Parker, who played Carrie in the original HBO series and subsequent films. The prequel will be set in the ’80s and will feature Carrie as she tries to navigate teenage life with “a complete lack of knowledge about love, sex and relationships,” according to the casting call for the role. Carrie will also be getting her first taste of the fashion world while trying to deal with the recent loss of her mother. And it will all take place, of course, in Manhattan.

Robb has previously starred in big screen hits such as Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Bridge to Terabithia and Soul Surfer. The Carrie Diaries will debut on the CW in May, at which point the network will decide whether to turn it into a full series.

WHAT!!! I’m a hardcore SATC fan and this is such a wrong pick!! 🙁

Starting the show back in the ’80’s with Carrie as a teenager is a wrong choice.
Earlier news reports said show or new movie would have Carrie in College.

That’s a completely unbelievable pick. She’s way prettier than Sarah Jessica Parker. NO ONE should believe that she looked like that in her teens.

    Lloyd,
You stole my words. I couldn’t agree with you more. Maybe if they went to the horse ranch and picked out a young filly that would be more appropriate choice. Actually that is still not ugly enough. Meow my claws are out.

I dont know how on earth this happened. SJP is hardly a pretty woman at the moment. Maybe back when she was in Footloose but now she’s an example of botox gone wrong. Oh well, I wasnt going to watch it anyway.

I agree that this choice in casting is too safe, vanilla and saccharine. While SJP is not a classic beauty, she was interesting-looking and she worked with what she had and she was also a delightful character in the series. It’s getting kind of boring hearing horse references about SJP… Again, a woman doesn’t have to be a super model to be attractive, but this new Carrie is just plain BORING-looking.

I saw Sarah Jessica Parker on the show Square Pegs when she was 17 and 18.This actress is all wrong.

SJP may not be the hottest actress out there but she made that show what it is today because of her acting skills. She made that character. And now they’re gonna butcher it by bringing this chick in to try and match that. They need to leave SATC alone for sure
