New evidence proves Dylan McDermott’s mother was murdered

The Perks of Being a Wallflower actor Dylan McDermott was only five years old when his mother, Diane McDermott, was shot in the head in February 1967. At the time of the incident Dylan was outside the door and heard the gunshot, but didn’t see what happened. The only witness was John Sponza, his mother’s live-in boyfriend. The death was ruled to be a suicide/accident in accordance with Sponza’s statement to the police. Since then, Dylan made a personal request to the police to reopen the cold case, and after a re-examination of the evidence the Connecticut Police determined that Diane did not commit suicide but was actually murdered, most likely by Sponza, who had ties to the mob. Evidence showed that the gun found near Diane’s head was a different gun than the one that killed her and in addition, the gun that fired the deadly shot had been pressed to the back of her head. There is now enough evidence to file murder charges against Sponza. Unfortunately, the man was killed in 1972 in connection with organized crime — his body was found in a Massachusetts grocery store parking lot in the trunk of a car. Hopefully this investigation gives Dylan McDermott some well-deserved closure. ~Stacy Raivich

God the police are stupid. They believed a guy who’s known to hang out with the mob? They should really be a little more selective and stop hiring big apes who just like the power trip.
missy, you sound really snotty in all of your comments. consider the fact that it was 1967. people didnt know as much then as they do now, and im sure a lot of the tests police can do now werent available then. it isnt like it happened last week with this kind of technology and intelligence.
Sorry but I have to agree with Missy. It is more challenging to become a police officer these days, but in 1967 there were quite a few thugs with their guns and badges who were either inept, corrupt or both.
oh, im not saying there wasnt, or that there isnt now, im sure there is still a lot that are inept, corrupt or both. im saying, dont assume that every time something gets over looked its because people were too stupid to notice, sometimes it really is that at the time we lacked the resources to form an educated answer.
