Beauty and the Beast new in theatersThe wait is finally over — Disney’s highly-anticipated live-action remake Beauty and the Beast is making its way into theaters today. Your favorite characters from the 1991 animated classic come to life, with Emma Watson and Dan Stevens as the titular couple. See their romance blossom in this enchanting musical reboot of the tale as old as time.

Beauty and the Beast – Belle (Emma Watson) lives in a small town in France with her loving father, Maurice (Kevin Kline). When he goes out and his horse comes back without him, Belle goes looking for him and finds he’s been imprisoned in a tower by The Beast (Dan Stevens). She switches places with her father and finds to her amazement that the household objects in the castle are alive, and can talk. She slowly gets to know the Beast’s softer side, just as the townsfolk are preparing to rescue her. Opening wide today. Click for showtimes.

Goon: Last of the Enforcers – The Halifax Highlanders are reaping the benefits of the NHL lockout. As a consequence of the strike, new professional players and old favorites join forces on the bench to bring rough, foul-mouthed hockey back to the rink. Married with a baby on the way and a body that shouldn’t weather another hit, aggressive and highly-skilled brawler Doug “The Thug” Glatt (Seann William Scott) is ready to turn in his skates. But when he learns that his arch rival has been named Captain of the Highlanders and that new ownership threatens to destroy the team, he’s lured back to the sport. Opening wide today. T2 Trainspotting – The follow-up to 1996’s cult classic Trainspotting, Danny Boyle‘s long-awaited sequel takes place 20 years after the events of the first film as Renton (Ewan McGregor) returns to Scotland to make amends with Spud (Ewen Bremner) and Sick Boy (Jonny Lee Miller). However, the trio must also avoid the psychopathic Begbie (Robert Carlyle), who has just been released from prison. Opening in select Toronto theaters today; then expands to Calgary, Edmonton, Halifax, Hamilton, Kitchener, London, Montréal, Ottawa, Vancouver, Victoria, Winnipeg theaters March 24. The Sense of an Ending – Retiree Tony Webster (Jim Broadbent) suddenly receives a letter from Sarah (Emily Mortimer), a woman he knew long ago. In it, he discovers Sarah has died and in her will, has left him a diary written by his college best friend, Adrian (Joe Alwyn), who took his own life years before. Tony discovers the diary is now in the hands of Sarah’s daughter, Veronica (Charlotte Rampling), who happens to be his former flame from university. He seeks her out, and through their long overdue reunion and the many secrets uncovered from the diary, Tony gains a new perspective on his past, present, and future. Weirdos – Summer 1976. Despite enjoying the company of his imaginary friend, Andy Warhol, Kit (Dylan Authors), 15, is bored in the small Nova Scotia town where he lives with his father (Allan Hawco) and grandmother (Cathy Jones). He wants to travel to Sydney, where he believes he’ll enjoy a more glamorous life. He convinces his girlfriend Alice (Julia Sara Stone) to join him. While hitchhiking to the city, they accept a ride from a carload of teens, but when Kit gets overly friendly with a gay teen named Leo, Alice decides on an abrupt change of plan. Opening in select Calgary, Charlottetown, Cobourg, Halifax, Toronto, Vancouver theaters today; expands to Ottawa, Victoria, Waterloo March 24. Click for showtimes.
