New on DVD – Nobody’s Fool, Bohemian Rhapsody and more

Two Oscar nominees — Bohemian Rhapsody and Shoplifters — are being released on DVD/Blu-ray today, along with the Tiffany Haddish comedy Nobody’s Fool. As a special bonus to get you in the mood for Valentine’s Day, 52 Words For Love is releasing on iTunes. Check them all out below. ~Alexandra Heilbron
Nobody’s Fool – Danica (Tika Sumpter), a successful career woman, is on track to becoming the first black female vice president of her company. Her life is interrupted when her sister Tanya (Tiffany Haddish) gets out of prison and moves in with her. When Tanya tells Danica her online love interest “Charlie” is fake, the two sisters put a plan into action to hunt “Charlie” down and teach him a lesson.

Bohemian Rhapsody – The meteoric rise of Queen is dramatized, starting with the rock band’s formation through to the time when Freddie Mercury’s (Rami Malek) lifestyle begins to spiral out of control. After taking over a year off from touring, the band performed at Live Aid in 1985, when Mercury, facing a life-threatening illness, stole the show in front of a sold-out stadium audience of 72,000 and a television audience of 1.9 billion.

The Front Runner – Senator Gary Hart (Hugh Jackman) is considered the front runner for the 1988 Democratic presidential nomination. He’s young, handsome, charming and has a supportive wife and daughter. When rumors of an extramarital activity surface, he gets angry and challenges the media to follow him. They do and discover he’s having an affair with a much younger woman.

Shoplifters – A family living in Tokyo survives by shoplifting. They come across a tiny girl in the freezing cold and bring her home, where they find signs that she’s been abused. Soon the whole family is enamored of the little girl, whom they name Rin. They teach her how to shoplift and she turns out to be a natural, but when they spot Rin described as a missing girl on TV, it leads to secrets being revealed. This movie is one of the Oscar nominees for Best Foreign Language Film. In Japanese with English subtitles.

52 Words for Love – When Alice sets out to post one synonym for love every week for a year on a site she calls “52 Words for Love,” she inadvertently sends a gentle ripple through her social network, which inspires her friends and leads to her discovering more about relationships than she could have imagined. Available on iTunes only, starting Feb. 14.

I saw this film at a special VIP premiere screening in Toronto and was absolutely blown away by its heart and grit. Beautiful, nuanced performances combined with an intelligent and richly complex script. Storytelling at its finest with some incredible surprises.
If you’re human and have feelings – this film will make you feel them.
Of course, I’m referring to 52 Words for Love!
